but if someone has a problem with how you are conducting yourself in a thread they have started, then surely they can put a stop to it or ask for it to be stopped? its far better than deleting posts and unable to follow the conversation.
For example, say you started a thread and my contributions were a little misplaced and you found them to be offensive and disruptive. isnt it better to have the option to stop me from replying to that thread instead of stopping me from taking an active part in the rest of the debate section where i can debate on other issues? an overall ban from a website is a bit harsh for slighty annoying a fellow poster.. dont you think?
