I have to say that for me the problem is not the style of the underwear it's whether or not it's on show, and the image that projects. As long as advertisers sell things by selling womens bodies then girls are going to have problems with this. What should be an innocent choice 'what underwear is most comfortable' becomes fraught with connotations that often the girls themselves are not really aware of.
Our oldest daughter is starting to pay more attention to what she wears and I'm trying to educate her eye so that she can tell what clothes look good on her, it is always a case of pick and chose because what looks good on one bodyshape can look bad on another (like the dress that looks good on the hanger but takes inches of your height and adds it to your waist. Great if you're tall and skinny bad if you're not). And sometimes what looks good on the telly makes the real kids look too, umm is slutty a word?
