(Actually, I LOVE Mustangs, but wanted to pull your chain. I'm looking forward to a Cobra convertible.)

OK, so I stumbled across this old thread today and saw these posts !!!

Agreed, there are lots of cars that will eat an SVT Cobra on a twisty road, and quite a few that will out-accelerate it in a straight line .... but only two engines sound better .... the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster (also a quad-cam 32-valve V8 engine, but with only 4.3 litres) and the BMW 650i (only a 4.4 litre twin-cam V8) .... but neither the Aston (costing $ 127,000) nor the BMW (only $ 84,000) are proper four-seater convertibles .... and don't forget, the Mustang GT costs just $ 26,000 - even the supercharged 500 hp GT500 convertible costs only $ 47,000 - and you can get the Mustang serviced at almost any garage, plus there is a huge choice of good-condition pre-owned models readily available.

My company car is a rice-burner .... a 230 hp turbocharged four-wheel-drive Subaru Forester. Yes, it will easily eat the SVT Cobra on any twisty road, and will even out-accelerate the SVT in a straight line on a damp road too .... but that still doesn't make it half as much fun to drive !!

P.S. Some of my other toys include an AC Shelby Cobra 289 replica (Range Rover 4.6 litre V8, under 1700 lbs and 240 hp at the rear wheels) - hence the "289" in "Dave289" - and a Lotus 7 replica (Rover 3.9 litre V8, under 1360 lbs and 190 hp at the rear wheels). The Lotus 7 used to have a Range Rover 4.6 litre V8 engine, but when the rear wheels spin in 5th gear at 100 mph on a damp road, you know you have too much torque !! Even with the 3.9 litre, it will easily out-accelerate and out-handle anything else on the road (except possibly another 7), and it makes even an average driver feel like he could win a Formula 1 race tomorrow !!

(damn, I want to take it out for a blast now, but it is 1:40 am, and the neighbours probably won't appreciate being woken up by the beast at this time of night !!)
