28 RULES FOR BEING A GOOD REPUBLICAN IN 21st CENTURY AMERICA
1) You have to believe that the nation's 8-year prosperity and budget surplus under Clinton was due entirely to the work of Ronald Reagan and George Bush, but that today's gas prices and HUGE deficit are all Clinton's fault. 2) You have to believe that those privileged from birth achieve success all on their own. 3) You have to be against government programs, but expect your Social Security checks on time and be in favor of corporate welfare. 4) You have to believe that government should stay out of people's lives, yet you want government to regulate only opposite-gender marriages and what your official language should be. 5) You have to believe that pollution is OK, so long as it makes a profit. 6) You have to believe in prayer in schools, as long as people don't pray to Allah, Krishna or Buddha. 7) You have to believe that only your own teenagers are still virgins. 8) You have to believe that women cannot be trusted with decisions about their own bodies, but that large multinational corporations should have no regulation or interference whatsoever. 9) You know you love Jesus and that Jesus loves you and that Jesus shares your hatred of AIDS victims, homosexuals, Bill Clinton. and “liberals” (though you have no clue as to the actual meaning of the terms “conservative” or “liberal”). 10) You have to believe that society is colorblind and growing up black in America doesn't diminish your opportunities, but you still won't vote for Alan Keyes. 11) You have to believe that it was wise to allow Ken Starr to spend $50 million dollars to attack Clinton because no other U.S. presidents have ever been unfaithful to their wives. 12) You have to believe that a waiting period for purchasing a handgun is bad because quick access to a new firearm is an important concern for all Americans, especially if you are a mentally damaged college student. 13) You have to believe it is wise to keep condoms out of schools, because we all know that if teenagers don't have condoms they won't have sex. 14) You have to believe that the American Civil Liberties Union is bad because they defend the Constitution, while the National Rifle Association is good because they defend the Constitution. 15) You have to believe that socialism hasn't worked anywhere, and that Europe doesn't exist. 16) You have to believe the AIDS virus is not important enough to deserve federal funding proportionate to the resulting death rate and that the public doesn't need to be educated about it, because if we just ignore it, it will go away. (And even if it doesn’t, who cares? It’s only queers and blacks who get it, anyway.) 17) You have to believe that biology teachers are corrupting the morals of 6th graders if they teach them the basics of human sexuality, but the Bible, which is full of sex and violence, is good reading. 18) You have to believe that Chinese communist missiles have killed more Americans than private handguns, alcohol, and tobacco. 19) You have to believe that even though governments have supported the arts for 5000 years and that most of the great works of Renaissance art were paid for by governments, our government should shun any such support. After all, the rich can afford to buy their own and the poor don't need any. 20) You have to believe that the lumber from the last one percent of old growth U.S. forests is well worth the destruction of those forests and the extinction of the several species of plants and animals therein. 21) You have to believe that we should forgive and pray for Newt Gingrich, Henry Hyde, and Bob Livingston for their marital infidelities, but that rat bastard Clinton should have been impeached. 22) You have to believe that anyone who disagrees with you is not entitled to his/her contrary opinion and that they are both evil AND stupid. 23) You have to believe that the drug addicts are the scourge of our society, but that Rush Limbaugh is an innocent victim of circumstances. 24) You have to believe that it was OK to invade Iraq, even though the WMD nonsense has been proven to be just that; because Saddam was a DIRECT threat to the U.S. and its interests, but that is not the case with North Korea. 25) You have to believe that Israel is our friend and that we should support them no matter what they do, despite the murder by them of our sailors on the essentially unarmed U.S.S. Liberty (you have to believe this if you are a good Democrat, as well). 26) You have to believe that Bush and his boys are not traitors to their own party, which (quite correctly) has preached for years against deficit spending. 27) You have to believe that the middle class and lower economic rungs of society are being benefited by being trickled on by the wealthy. 28) You have to believe that the Republican party was right through the years when it A. opposed child labor laws, B. opposed the Pure Food and Drug Act; C. opposed the Social Security Act; D. opposed the National Labor Relations Act; E. opposed every genuine anti-pollution measure; F. opposed most of the civil rights laws; G. opposed the National Recovery Act; H. opposed creation of the Securities and Exchange Commission; I. opposed the Civilian Conservation Corps; J. opposed the Medicare Act; K. opposed creation of the EEOC; L. opposed all of the anti-price fixing and anti-trust legislation; M. opposed the Family Medical Care Leave Act; N. opposed the EPA; O. opposed the creation of the Consumer Protection Agency; P. opposed worker safety with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration; and, in essence, Q. opposed every single piece of progressive legislation since 1900. |

Not even close!!! I left out REAMS of bullshit that those lying bastards have foisted on us for a hundred years PLUS. They were always bought and paid for by big business and not a damned thing has changed. Big busness doesn't give a damn how many people they kill or maim or cheat or impoverish as long as they make a profit. The frickin' Republic Party leadership can always be depended upon to suck up to big business and to do whatever necessary to get or stay in power.

I don't know who I would vote for if given a vote. Like most non-U S citizens my knowlege of the contenders it small.
Hillary Clinton (Democrat) Best known of the contenders but more of a face than a polititian. Her main strength is her husband and her loyalty to him. May be too much of a hate figure for the republicans to bring success since it's likely to sway those on the centre against her. Barack Obama (Democrat) Possibl the one I'd vote for since I had a customer wearing a badge for him in recently. Okay that's not a very good reason but there you go. John Edwards (Democrat) Not someone I'd go for. Far too introspective internalising all US policy would be bad for me. Dennis Kucinich (Democrat) Never heard of him. Rudy Giuliani (Republican) Former NY mayor? Did well on the 9/11 attacks better than the president but do you really want to hark back to them. DFon't know anything about his poilicies. Mitt Romney (Republican) never heard of him. John McCain (Republican) I've heard of him but again he seems to be an introspective polititian who would restrict the US to internal matters and let the outside world go to wrack and ruin. This is ot truew of course but anyone who is wiling to seem that way would not get my vote. Ron Paul (Republican) Never heard of him. What would influence my vote would be: 1. Economy. Desire to cut the deficite. 2. Education. An understanding that in the long term a good education system is neded for future growth. 3. Environment. An understanding that good envornmentl policies rely on the economy growing and technology being focused on limiting and reversing the damage. There is one heck of a LOT OF MONEY TO BE MADE FROM CLEAN TECHS. 4. Iraq. An understanding that they must be there for the very long term. They cannot cut and run since they made the descision they have to see it through. Bring the boys back home is not a vote winner for me.(But I must admit to being a believer in the if you can help you should.) 5. Foreign Affairs. If the US cut itself off from the rest of the world it is about the only country that could. Less than 10% GDP relies upon foreign trade unlike a country like the UK where the %age is closer to 35. As the US grows more introspective so the world econmoy gets weaker. Look at the depressions of the 1920s and 1980s and you can clearly see times where the US economy was inward looking. In this I feel that for the world economy more danger has been caused by Hurrican Katrina than the Iraq war. |
