Ron Paul is catching my attention and running with my heart lately. Watch this amazing video of how the media has been treating him. He is climbing in polls really fast and is making a huge move.

When the colonies became states, each had a landed aristocracy that was running things and they wanted to be damned sure that they continued in that position. They did this with several smart gimmicks. One was in the qualifications to be able to vote. A man had to own a certain amount of property to be entitled to vote or hold office, since the rabble did not own property and they could not be trusted to maintain the status quo. Some of the property qualifications were amazing. For example, in Maryland for the very first election for governor, there were only three men in the entire state who had enough property to qualify. The Electoral College was another (and very successful) gimmick. One guess who got to be in the college and who got to vote? Gee, what a surprise - it was the same aristocracy already in power. So - it was not an accident that they were able to overrule the popular vote. Interestingly, the people of the South in particular were esepecially suckered by them. They bought the argument that the Electoral College gave them the same power to elect as the more populous northern states. What a joke! What is even more pathetic is that some very well educated people STILL buy into that nonsense. |
