The Brother's Song
Like any good mother, when Karen found out that another baby was on the way, she did what she could to help her 3 year old son, Michael, prepare for a new sibling.

They found out that the new baby was going to be a girl, and day after day, night after night, Michael sang to his little sister in Mommy's tummy. He was building a bond of love with his little sister before he even met her.

The pregnancy progressed normally for Karen.

In time, the labor pains came. Soon it was every five minutes, very three, every minute. But serious complications arose during delivery and Karen found herself in hours of labor. Would a C-section be required? Finally after a long struggle, Michael's little sister was born. But she was in very serious condition. With a siren howling in the night, the ambulance rushed the infant to the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Mary's Hospital, Knoxville, Tennessee

The days inched by. The little girl got worse. The pediatric specialist regretfully had to tell the parents, "There is very little hope. Be prepared for the worst."

Karen and her husband contacted a local cemetery about a burial plot. They had fixed up a special room in their home for the new baby....but now they found themselves having to plan for a funeral.

Michael, however, kept begging his parents to let him see his sister. "I want to sing to her," he kept saying. Week two in the intensive care looked as if a funeral could come before the week was over.

Michael kept nagging about singing to his sister, but kids are never allowed in the Intensive Care. Karen made up her mind, though. She would take Michael whether they liked it or not! If he didn't see his sister right then, he may never see her alive.

She dressed him in an oversized scrub suit and marched him into ICU. He looked like a walking laundry basket, but the head nurse recognized him as a child and bellowed "Get that kid out of here now! NO children are allowed!" The mother rose up strong in Karen, and the usually mild-mannered lady glared steel-eyed right into the head nurses's face, her lips a firm line. "He's not leaving until he sings to his sister!"

Karen towed Michael to his sister's bedside. He gazed at the tiny infant losing the battle to live. After a moment, he began to sing. In the pure hearted voice of a 3-year-old Michael sang:

"You are my sunshine, my only sushine,
you make me happy when skies are gray,"

Instantly the baby girl seemed to respond. Her pulse rate began to calm down and become steady. "Keep on singing, Michael, encouraged Karen with tears in her eyes.

"You never know, dear,
how much I love you.
Please don't take
my sunshine away."

Michael's little sister began to relax as rest, healing rest, seemed to sweep over her. "Keep on singing, Michael." Tears had now conquered the face of the bossy head nurse. Karen glowed.

"My only sunshine.
Please don't take
my sunshine away...."

The next day, ...the very next day...the little girl was well enough to go home!

"Woman's Day Magazine" called it "The Miracle of a Brother's Song" The medical staff just called it a miracle. Karen called it a miracle of God's love!

Never give up on the people you love. Love is so Incredible powerful. To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world!

How's The water In Your Well?

Our Thoughts:

When I was a young child, the only way we could have water was to have a well dug. I remember our well vividly! It was right outside the backdoor, under a shed. We drew well water to drink, and to cook. It was the clearest and cleanest water in town, I kid you not! It was what is called 'freestone' well water. It didn't have the inpurities that you find in most water. But, you paid the price for this water with having too little. Mother also had to use it for washing clothes. There was never enough, so we had to carry water from my Daddy's sister's home down the street.

My husband and I dug a well on our property, when we first moved out in the country. We didn't have 'city water', at the time. We were blessed with a plentiful supply of water, but it was without perfection. It contained iron, and it caused our commode tanks to become rust colored, changed the look of the inside of the dishwasher and our washing machine. We finally had to get a filter to filter out the rust. That went on until they brought 'city water' to our part of the country.

Water can be pure or it can become polluted. The Word of God is like water to our bodies, and it is pure and TRUTH. John 17:17 says 'thy word is truth'. We are to live by the commandments of God. The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. God gave us a new covenant by which to live when Christ was resurrected. The old covenant was given to Abraham by promises and we are heirs to those promises. But the new covenant has better promises and God said he would put his laws in our hearts and write them on our minds! So the Word that you read and speak gets into your 'veins', flowing through every part of your body, filling it with 'purified water' - the Word - that works for you! It flows through your being, giving you the Power of God's Word. Unlike the well water, it never has to have a filter, never has to be purified! It is the TRUTH!

God's Thoughts:

Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Our Cup:

Heavenly Father, we know that your Word is Truth. Help us to continually be in the Word, to have our bodies 'washed' with the Word daily! We give you thanks and praise due your precious name. We give you praise! In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

SECONDS COMING UP!
by Barbara Sanders

Never under estimate what you can become in your life, when you have a humble beginning! Take Miss Dena, for instance. She was born in a little log cabin in Brilliant, Alabama. Nice name for a great beginning place, wouldn't you say? Brilliant towns grow 'brilliant' people!

Her mother was a homemaker and her daddy worked in the mines part of the time. He also farmed. He would buy a farm, and work it a few years, and then he would go back to the mines.

From these humble beginnings, Miss Dena got a great start. She always had a determination to make something of herself. She first wanted to be a nurse, but went on to become a schoolteacher. She would attend college in Florence, Alabama, during the summer months, and teach in the winter months. While in college, she played basketball, in the forward position. She also took her first train rides to other cities, during those years.

During her earlier days, things were much different than they are now. In fact, she said she had seen lots of changes over her ninety-seven years on earth. There was no electricity. In fact, she met her husband, when he was working for Alabama Power in north Alabama. He had come to her parents' home to put in their electricity.

And, Miss Dena never stops! Wondering what this agile lady, ninety-seven years 'young', received for Mother's Day? You aren't going to believe it! She was given a hoe with which to garden, and a file to keep it sharp! Never underestimate this lady! Her days aren't over yet! She'll be busy when the Lord calls her home. So, when you feel you're 'getting old' and you run out of things to do 'at your age', think of Miss Dena! I am sure she could give you some pointers!

1 Peter 3:12 - “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil” KJV

In a small Christian conservative town, the owner of a new tavern laid the building foundation for his business. The proud tavern owner set up a huge sign and announced to the whole world, “Coming Soon.”

The local Holy and Righteous Church started a campaign to block the Tavern from opening. Petitions were signed all over the community and mighty prayer meetings were scheduled.

Work progressed week after week. The foundation turned into walls with doors and windows. Finally after several months a roof announced that the Tavern would be open for business the next week.

The Holy and Righteous Church called the community together the night before the grand opening for a huge prayer assembly. Late that night a lightning strike hit the Tavern and burned it to the ground.

The Holy and Righteous Church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that --- until one day the Tavern owner sued The Holy and Righteous Church. The Tavern owner sued on grounds the church was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building. He said their involvement inhibited him either through direct or indirect actions or means from opening. He claimed all his losses --- times 3 --- as a penalty for their meddling.

The Holy and Righteous Church hired the lawyer at the top of the tallest building in their community. The lawyer spoke up to the judge and vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the buildings demise in his reply to the court.

As the case made it's way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork at the pre-trial hearing and commented, "I don't know how I'm going to decide this, but as it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner that believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that doesn't."

I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.
(Matthew 8:8 NRSV Bible)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The centurion was man of great humility. Jesus was persuaded by the testimony of the elders and went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him saying, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof . . . ." Can you believe this? Here is a Roman solider a man of wealth, power, and authority and he is saying to an itinerant Jewish teacher, "I am not worthy to have you come under my roof . . . ." He was a man of great humility.
Is there any quality more appealing in a woman or man than genuine humility? I'm not talking about low self-esteem that causes others to walk all over us. Certainly the centurion was no doormat. But he recognized Jesus' power and he was humbled.

One of my favorite stories is about a bald man who decided with his wife one night to go out to dinner and have a baby sitter to take care of their two little children.

While they were gone, the baby sitter got interested in a television program and wasn't watching the children very carefully. The little boy got into his father's electric shaver and shaved a big landing strip right down the middle of his head.

When his father came home, he was furious. He said, "Son! I told you never to play with my shaver. Now you are going to get a spanking!" Dad was just about to give his son a spanking when his son looked up at him and said, "Wait until you see sister!" Dad was horrified.

He went into the next room and there was their little four-year-old daughter with her hair shaved off. By this time dad was really furious. He grabbed up his son and said, "Now you are really going to get it."

Just as he lifted his hand his son looked up at him with tears in his eyes and said, "But Daddy! WE WERE JUST TRYING TO LOOK LIKE YOU!" I'm sure that little boy didn't get any punishment that night. A good person of God is humble.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Jesus, through your humility you became my savior. May I also be humble for God's glory. Amen.

Psalm 127:3-4 - “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth” KJV

Lord, it's you that I seek
Help my spirit to be meek

Lord, please listen to my call
Please don't let my children fall

Evil is all around me
Trouble is all I see

Lord, I fall on bended knees
Can you hear this parent's pleas?

Lord, my kids are blind and can not see
Lord, please draw them close to thee

Remove the veil from off their eyes
Deliver them, save them are my cries

Lord, when they look in the sky
Let them feel You and hear my parent's cry

Let them hear Your beaconing call
Lord, save my children, don't let them fall

Lord, I praise thee for hearing my prayer
Lord, grant my kids peace everywhere

Give them perfect peace from above
Let them see your never failing love

Today's Promise from the Bible
Deuteronomy 4:31
(For the LORD thy God [is] a merciful God he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

Reflection

God in His mercy has promised that He will always be with His children of faith. He remembers His promises and will never break them! What an awesome God we serve!
