Caitlin Perriman who did that charchol sketch is one of the most positve and uplifting artists to emerge on our local art scene.
It's not so much about taking anyone to the stars, it's about individuals shooting for the stars or trying to obtain something that would ordiarally be out of their reach.
As far as my art work being depressing, as Arella says.............. the beauty of any art work lies in the eye of the beholder. It's like mesages on a bulletin board, if you don't like the author you are not compelled to read their posts.

This is very true. I know that one of the things painted, sketched by many artists, are nudes. In the "Bible Belt", that would be considered porn.

Theres a reason why naked or semi naked women in magazines are on the top shelf....
because those type of pics are not appropriate for children!
I live in a country where sex isnt a taboo subject, its as open and free as you like, and those mags are top shelf..
But does that mean i woult stop entering the shop because my child might see a picture of a women spreading her legs? no, it means if i found they were causing my child or any other person embarassment or discomfort, it would be my right to complain about it..
same goes for here..
its not for kids (so same some) but kids are exposed to it.
I feel as a parent its easier to educate children instead of exposing them to things

I was raised around classic art (nudes) Statues, paintings & sketches. Its all up to the onlooker to make it pornograghic! I dunno about anyone else lol but, it takes more than stone, paint and paper to get me excited sexualy!!!

Vinnie, she'll grow out of that, or lock the door
arella theres a HUGE difference in statues paintings & sketchings to women in mags, the sig pics here etc.. its not like they are tastefully done... being nude and having someone draw you can be tasteful.. laying down with your legs open and your hands down your pants while someone photographs you.. isnt.. Im far from being a prude but given the 2, i know which one I would rather have hanging on my wall

I actually quite like them. The first picture is beautiful, I have been looking for paintings for the dementia unit as we are decorating, those are the kind I would hang.

I agree. The art that brought me into roo has changed. So has roo. Change will happen. However I do view the girlie pics as art. I just make them roo legal for those that perfer them. If I was to walk into anyones home that depicted the girlie art seen on roo I would not have a ptoblem with it. The only art I find offensive is art that depicts BDSM.

Recently in Australia there have been several images of children under discussion as to whether it is pornographic or not. When children are the subject matter the rules change and the term pornographic is broadened.
One of the images I’m sure you have all seen is from the Miley Cyrus photo shoot.

An Australian photographer named Bill Hensen recently had photographs confiscated by government officials.

This is latest entry into what some people are calling child pornography is from an Art magazine that is funded by our Federal government.
Art Monthly July 2008 Number 211
The editor of Art Monthly has taken a stand on the difference between art and pornography and that’s why he included the picture of a naked 6 year old girl on the front cover of the magazine.
I have no idea if the painting had a nude child subject to paint from so I can't say if it is a real child in the painting.
One of the points raised by the art world is that the Master Artists of yesteryear included naked children and these contemporary photographs and paintings are less graphic than paintings hanging in the most prestigious galleries around the world.
Personally, I find the Miley Cyrus photographs to be the most pornographic of the three links I supplied.
