Pregnant man tells Oprah his pregnancy is a miracle

A transgender man who is six months pregnant has said in an interview aired by Oprah Winfrey that he always wanted to have a child and considers it a miracle.


"It's not a male or female desire to have a child. It's a human desire," a thinly bearded Thomas Beatie said. "I have a very stable male identity," he added, saying that pregnancy neither defines him nor makes him feel feminine.

Beatie, 34, who lives in Oregon, was born a woman but decided to become a man 10 years ago. He began taking testosterone treatments and had breast surgery to remove glands and flatten his chest.

"I opted not to do anything with my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day," he told the talk show host. Beatie's wife Nancy said she inseminated him with a syringe using sperm purchased from a bank.

Now, he said, his size 32 jeans are getting a bit tight and his shirts are a bit stretched.

Nancy, to whom he has been married for five years and who has two grown daughters by a previous marriage, also appeared on the show, saying the couple's roles will not change once the baby is born.

"He's going to be the father and I'm going to be the mother," she said. Their marriage is legal and he is recognised under state law as a man.

The couple was shown on video provided by People Magazine, which collaborated with Winfrey on the show, showing the room that will be the baby's nursery. Beatie said the little girl was going to be "daddy's little princess."

The couple was also filmed in their hometown of Bend, Oregon, where he underwent an ultrasound showing the baby in his womb.

"I can't believe it. I can't believe she's inside me," Beatie said while watching the ultrasound image. "We see her as our little miracle."

His obstetrician, Dr Kimberly James, who practices in the Oregon town, told Winfrey, "This is a normal pregnancy."

She said Beatie stopped taking testosterone two years ago and his levels of the hormone are normal.

"This baby is totally healthy," she said. "This is what I consider a normal pregnancy."

The couple said they had been turned down by a number of other doctors before James agreed to take him as a patient.

The couple said an earlier attempt at pregnancy failed when he developed a tubal pregnancy, resulting in surgery that removed his Fallopian tubes.

The couple said they decided to go public with the pregnancy because they wanted to control the way the news got out. "We're just going to have the baby now," Nancy said. "If we have to, we'll go hide."

The couple runs a small business in Bend and has some savings, she said. In addition, Beatie is working on a book about his childhood, his mother's suicide and his life growing in Hawaii where, as a girl, he was a teen beauty pageant contestant and earned a martial arts black belt.

Winfrey called the development "a new definition of what diversity means for everybody."

This is not so much a riot, this shows how the USA treats it's allies. Please note that the chemicals to be used in murdering Australian troops was banned under international law.

Why did the USA government even consider such a plan and if they wanted Guinea Pigs for their chemical weapon experiments, why not use their own grunts in the USA armed forces ?

Puts the USA administration of the time in the same league as Saddam Hussain and his hidden weapons of mass destruction.

THE US military planned to test deadly nerve gas on Australian soldiers in far north Queensland during the Cold War, declassified documents reveal.

The Defence and Prime Minister's office files show that the US was strongly pushing then prime minister Harold Holt's government in the 1960s to allow tests of two of the deadliest chemical weapons ever developed -- VX and GB, better known as Sarin nerve gas.

The revelation airs this morning on the Nine Network's Sunday program.

It says the top secret plan involved allowing 200 mainly Australian combat troops to be aerially bombed and sprayed with the chemical weapons.

It's understood the Iron Range rainforest near Lockhart River in far north Queensland was the likely location for the tests.

Peter Bailey, a former senior official with Mr Holt, tells the program the request caused consternation in Canberra, and as far as he knows the tests never went ahead.

But he says planning was very advanced in the US, which wanted the operation to be kept secret because the weapons were illegal under international law.

I'm fairly certain the Moderators have no understanding of how to do their job, if they did have the slightest incling of what their responsibilities are then situations like this would never arise.

There is only so much that Arella can be blamed for because what she does she has the full blessings of the Moderators to disrupt any thread that she wants to.

Im just getting tired of the snidey remarks the snapping and biting and the childish behaviour.
If i wanted to converse with children i would visit a kindergarten.. if i wanted to converse with badly behaved adults i would go down the local bar!

I know none of us are without faults.. but i recognise mine and admit to my wrong doings..
I am disappointed by the mods. Yes sure things are delted but where are the warnings? where are the posts saying this kind of thing will not be permitted? deleting posts serves no purpose.. the person does not learn from it..

I'm here to debate and to make conversation with a few people.. but you just cant do that these days.. I value and respect the opinions of people in this section.. but I refuse point blank to listen or put up with the rubbish that goes on...

What is the point of having Moderators who have do nothing except add to the conflict.
