from what I understand, it's by request only AND the reason for it must be validated

Below is a quote from Essex's original post and it seems like the one that starts the thread would have banning rights and would be able to do it themselves. ???
With this you have the right to bar a member/members from posting on your threads or certain individual threads.
If you feel that someone is contributing to a thread in a negative way you can bar them from replying on the thread.

no, the way it's going to be controlled is by a list, if a member is found to have sufficient reason to ban another from their thread, that banned from thread member's name will go on the list, once on the list, any subsequent posts in the specified thread by the specified member will be deleted

I don't know why I am asking these questions, there is only one person that I would ever bar and he is not a member anymore (well, under any of his old names). I know that you would have to have a good reason to bar anyone other than something personal though.

the only trouble i can really see with this is that the mod and thread starter will clash if the one wants the tban in place but he mod doesnt think so ...thats the trouble with going through a 3rd party.. if we could control it ourselves it makes us behave a little better.

I am not in favor of a thread ban. This forum is what it is because the members enjoy it. If they don't, then they need to post elsewhere. When members get personal in a vindictive way they should be banned from the forum, period. Do not run good members away with a policing effort that is as immature as those you are trying to ban. I enjoy the forum and I have made some friends here. We all need to be adults. If someone does not like me or what I have to say, that is their problem, not mine. I respect all members, even those I don't necessarily agree with. Even though I am basically new here, hopefully I know the rules. I don't need anyone to control me. If I do then I will go elsewhere to make and enjoy my friendships.

but if someone has a problem with how you are conducting yourself in a thread they have started, then surely they can put a stop to it or ask for it to be stopped? its far better than deleting posts and unable to follow the conversation.
For example, say you started a thread and my contributions were a little misplaced and you found them to be offensive and disruptive. isnt it better to have the option to stop me from replying to that thread instead of stopping me from taking an active part in the rest of the debate section where i can debate on other issues? an overall ban from a website is a bit harsh for slighty annoying a fellow poster.. dont you think?

If I started a thread and your contributions were a little misplaced and I found them to be offensive and disruptive, I could just as easily ignore you as you could annoy me. I don't wear my feelings on my sleeve. I grew up a long time ago. If a person would abuse a thread, then that person could just as easily abuse the forum. An overall ban is not harsh at all. Hopefully, it would help that individual in their own growth and improving communications with others. The alternative to an overall ban could be a two week or one month suspension. I know if I was suspended for a length of time, it would give me time to think about my own bahavior. I respect your opinion.

The problem with that is it would have to be programmed, not worth the effort and if it involved that I don't think it would ever have been given the go-ahead in the first place.

i dunno about these type of boards, but I know theres a prog/bot type thing that you can use on Bboards that allows you to t ban..
BH thats just you tho.. i'm very thick skinned and ive often told people here not to take things so personal and to grow thicker skin.. but not everyone is like that.. its unfair to ask others to ignore the nonsense or not to participate in it because some folks just cant help themselves.. its better to have a tool there that will put a stop to it before it gets to the stage that it did last week..
