Default Thread Ban

We've decided to try a new idea out..Thread Ban.
What this does is give you more power over your own threads, not to the extent of the my thread,my rules trial which was tried out in debate but had to be abandoned.
With this you have the right to bar a member/members from posting on your threads or certain individual threads.
If you feel that someone is contributing to a thread in a negative way you can bar them from replying on the thread.
Also I will be able to thread ban anyone if I feel that it's in the best interest of the thread.

If you feel that you wish to thread ban anyone send me a PM letting me know the member/members and the thread involved.
I will then PM the member banned to let them know and any breaches will be deleted.
A list of the banned members and threads involved will be kept on the mod forum so that all mods know who's banned from which threads.

excellent!
i am a HUGE fan of this idea. Ive seen it work on other forums and i know it works.

but to make sure.. can we also ask for bans if the thread turns chit chatty or if a person posts just to annoy the thread starter?

If you think a poster is there just to annoy then yes,the chit chat will be deleted if it's over 3 posts in a row,if it starts to get out of hand and spoil the thread in the debate section then you can thread ban the chatters.

I hope it works, but I have a feeling that there won't be anyone left in the debate section and then it won't be a debate because they always agree with each other. lol

Essex

Anything and everything is worth a go.

AR

Going off on a tangent is something that should be accepted but there should come a point where the debate has to be brought back on topic.

Iceman

There was a suggested set of guidelines on the Debate board, I can't remember which member posted it but it sort of went lke this.........

A debate happens when there are at least two differing opinions.

But you and AR will ban anyone that disagrees with you and you two will be the only ones left because you'll always agree with each other and have the same opinions..

actually iceman it was I who suggested the feature in the first place..
its a feature that i have seen on other forums, and ive only ever used it when
1) the thread was taken over by "you're momma is gay and your dad is a c sucker" type posts
2) when my thread was taken over with football (soccer) posts
3) when my internet stalker posts
4) when the member is in my threads with no other purpose than to annoy.

This is a good feature that allows us to have more control over our threads and a means to mod ourselves..Because we will have to control ourselves in other peoples threads now wont we?

and im sure the mods wont tban willy nilly because we ask them too.. and i REALLY hope that the mods wont t ban because their friends feel hard done by in a debate

There was a worry that it would be abused but we thought it was a good enough idea to be given a chance.
If a ban's asked for I will look at the thread and the situation surrounding the request and if it's in the best interest of the forum or thread it will be granted.

Can the person originating the thread ban someone themselves, or do they have to get a mod to do it?
