AR

I didn't really expect to get an answer from Inferno, it's pretty hard to justify the lie.

Bummer about the coffee table, it's always seems to be the simplest things that trigger back injuries. I can still remember the look on my mothers face when I leant around a door frame to turn on a light switch, she had to help get me onto the floor, she was crying because me, her baby, was in agonising pain and she couldn't do anything to help.

That was just one attack of the many before and after I had the laminectomy operation. After the op I was on Omnipom.

I'm not even sure if Omnipom ( by injection ) is available now but within a fortnight of hospital stay I was addicted to the stuff. Not so bad in itself, the bad part was I went from a constant supply to none and my body didn't like the withdrawals.

Be careful with your drugs, they may relieve the pain but they don't cure the cause, good luck with the surgeon.

Oh AR........ I'm so sorry to hear what has happened, I'm not in any position like some of our friends here who have been through similar things, I can only imagine the pain and discomfort ~ but it doesn't stop me wishing you all the best for next week, and pray for an early relief from the problem ~ take care, and you are in my thoughts ~ RL

anyways
found out today it looks like my department is going to close down..
I have serveral options open to me and I'd like to know what one you would choose if you were in my situation..

1. Go back to work part time and work up to fulltime but work in another department, one Im not too thrilled about
2. Take retirement (i'm 36) as my problem wont get better with time it will get worse
3. find another job
4 fight to keep my department open
5 stay in the department til it closes while looking for another job..

I should actually say I have degenerative disc disease... which sounds a lot worse than it actually is as its not a disease at all.

hmmm...or what if, rather than a "job" per se, you looked into starting your own business?

Just a thought.

I mean, what interests you? or...what really stirs your soul??
Do you have something you're very passionate about, that you could maybe turn into a career in some way?

Maybe writing or something...? Something that isn't so dependent on your back, but that still challenges your mind, heart, and soul. In my experiance, most jobs don't really do that...though I could be wrong.

From what I've seen of you (based on your posts), you're a pretty smart chick...really, I think the only limitations you'd face are those self-imposed ones that dog us all...but again, I could be wrong. I guess only you would know the answer to that.

Anyways, if you're religious at all, I'd maybe suggest praying on it...some people say that helps them. Otherwise, what I usually like to do is to just get away from the usual distractions...so maybe a weekend (or week long?) getaway all by yourself, where you can just be alone to think. I've had other people tell me they pay attention to, and analyze their dreams...and that they sometimes get guidance that way.

But I think deep down inside, only you can decide what it right for you...and maybe you already know what it is, and maybe you have always known.
Life and circumstances will sometimes force us to compromise our aspirations of chasing our dreams, but then you have to decide: Would you be happy with a compromise? And only you can truly answer that. Or maybe another way to look at it would be to ask yourself what you're worth...do you deserve half-measures or half-hearted attempts?

At any rate, I wish you luck...or maybe wishing you wisdom would be better...

Cheers

I have thought about starting my own business, there are a several things that make me dismiss the idea..
debt.. if it fails then im going to have debts.. my childhood was full of parents full of debts.. so far i have succeeded in not having any.
My ideas are not that of the general public and foreign ideas are usually frowned upon..
and I really dont have the time.. i wont quit work to start up a business fulltime and i have 3 kids pets husband and commitees that MUST come first..

but thank you for another suggestion *hug*

Autumnnnnn Rain
Sorry to hear about your setback. I sort of know how rough that can be. Back in mid april I was just lazing in a chair and went to stretch my arms. Easy thing for most people but not for me it seems lol. I believe I tore most of the ligaments/tendons/muscles in and around my shoulder cuz it hurt like hell at the time and still does to this day. Well of course my job requires heavy lifting and a week ago last friday I was lifting a box and tore what was left it seems. Can't move it all that much now without it screaming back at me to quit but I'm persevering (hehehe no I didn't say perverse-ering like some of ya might have thought hehe). It's just one of those forever minor aches and pains of life that I now hafta accept. I can only be thankful that for the moment it's not that bad but I don't want to stare into the future because I know what's coming.
Hopefully you'll get the help you need Ar whether it is surgery to reliee as much of the pain as surgery can or the pain meds will help out. I know you won't abuse them (you seem quite level headed to me). Be careful and I hope you get to feeling better soon.
