You have no proof he tried to plot against the King. But that would be, of course, a good excuse to have a well loved person beheaded so as not to cause a riot. You believe in conspiracy theories now, but you dont think they were possible then?  Seriously, there are written accounts from his friends after his death. He was a humble, docile man who didnt like to do anyone harm. Plots against the King...  is amusing. But hey, you didnt expect a King to let it out that they were friends and he had nothing on Thomas but stubborness. It was an unnecessary and tragic death, albeit he is martyred for the Church and loyalty.

If this is about war, then I believe there are International Laws that deal with this...about rules of engagement, treatment of POW's...that sort of thing. Patrish, if you're looking for a way to excuse the Bush administration for their war crimes, I would hope that none are offered here....and if this is on a more personal level, and you mean your own *personal* enemies...then I might suggest a change in perspective...and instead of seeing them as "enemies" because they believe in a different religion than you, then maybe you could see them as friends....albeit, *really stubborn* friends.
