I work in a service industry where I will regularly come into contact with folk from various countries. I find it interesting the way that visitors act. Have you noticed a difference in the way visitors are now?
I have always found Americans to be incredibly chatty and amazed at the way folk will talk to them (even when theya re the ones who have started the conversation). canadains polite but very certain about [pointing out they are not Americans (an attitude I can fully relate to, the phrase I taught my kids before we went to france this year was : "Non! Je suis Ecosse!") Australians are either incredibly arrogant or very very positive and bouncy. I could say New Zealanders have a far too unhealthy interest in sheep but that's not really on topic. Europeans vary tremendously with the Dutch being very nice and helpful with language skils that put me to shame. The French being slightly surly and the Italians rathe disorganised. Are these observations that others would agree with or am i transposing my predjudices over to innocent bystanders?

I find Germans to be VERY arrogant, they just assume you will speak their language. French I find rather offhand, Americans I find are a bit too loud for my likings, always comparing everything with the USA.. Canadians tend to be very friendly and easy going but like you say spend a lot of time pointing out they are not americans..
Swedes and Norwegians are much like the danes and Im used to their rudeness.. Italians, Turks, and Poles are very friendly and will talk for hours if you let them.. Australians (LOVE EM) I've never met an australian that I havent hit it off with, real down to earth solid, funny and honest people.. Russians are really warm and friendly, always smiling, but I get the impression they are ready to cut me in half.. Scots.. judgemental stubborn friendly and warm buggers

When I first went abroad it was to Paris. I asked a policeman some directions and he couldn't speak English. My reaction was how can you have become a Policeman when you can't talk English. I was a lot younger in those days though lol. We have a lot of Poles here due to them joining Europe so it's a lot easier for them to be allowed to work without restrictions. I really like them and I've never yet met a Polish woman who isn't a stunner. If they all look like the ones here then I would never have wanted to leave the country

hahaha essexs, that reminds me of something
British people on holiday SHOUT at others if they dont speak the language. like shouting will make them understand ![]() My mother in law does it every year she is here. Altho most people can speak english they simply dont understand her as she has a really broad scottish accent and she refuses to slow down and stop using slang.. so they give her the blank look, she then goes on to shout at them in order for them to understand.. I HATE going out with her because she refuses to let me talk for her..*shrugs*

I have yet to run into other nationalities that weren't as polite and charming as I was towards them. Have had 'rude' french, 'uneducated american loathing' english, lots of asians (as I love to cook asian foods & we have a twin city in Japan), lots of finnish as many locals are finnish (bland diet lol) but very good company, some very talkative italians lol, went to school with a scot, proud and loud but one of the best friends a person could ask for, very intelligent and he had red hair too and freckles lol, a ton of american indians, yep smoked peace pipe lol great people, one german couple (again diet not to impressive but I like it spicy).
Many have been through the local cultural committee which I belong but many I met at the post office if you can believe that and quite a few at resturants inquiring about cusine. I guess my experience 'may' be different because I am drawn to 'cultural diversity' I find it stimulating, very interesting and a challenge at times. I live for challenge and the change to learn and grow. Momma said you get what you expect out of people if God graces you! I believe God has graced me with a caring, giving, opened minded spirt, gotta love the Big Guy he has done right by me! Regards, James

We see a lot of South Africans here for Harvest. They all seem to be very shy. Not at all like the Aussies and the New Zealanders who seem to take over the town with their good natured loudness.
