What a relief I was under the impression that the Russian Naval Fleet had sea to land nuclear armed missliles that had a longer range than 150 miles.

I think it's more the fact that the media is focussing on such things now, moreso than the actual occurrence of them.

Like the recent coverage of the "renewed" Bear bomber patrols...in truth, they had never gone away (or so I'm told), but the fact that the media *chose* to recently renew their coverage of the story to me is more telling than anything.

Again, fear is a powerful motivator...

And a Republican ploy to scare the masses into voting a 'stong' military man into office. Now the term 'strong' can be defined many ways.

Strong - I won't blink, Charlie - Palin
Strong - I can see Putins soul by looking in his eyes - McBush

Strong - I can see Russia out my back window - Palin
Strong - I will bitch slap anyone that disagrees with me, you stupid cunt - McCain

Need I say more?

Flynn: So you think it is only America that
can have naval trials with their allies? If so that is a
very narrow view of world politics.
Yes, that would be a very narrow view of world politics but my eyes are
wide open; I took the red pill long time ago. This was just for information
and chance to poke fun at McCain and Palin. Bush and McCain would like
to bomb Iran. If U.S. don’t start it, Israel will.

January 19, 2008 (RIA Novosti) - Russia’s top military commander said on
Saturday that the country is prepared to use its nuclear weapons to defend
itself and allies in the event of a severe external threat.

The Chief of the Russian General Staff, Gen. Yury Baluyevsky,
told a conference at the Academy of Military Sciences in
Moscow, “We do not intend to attack anyone, but consider it
necessary that all our partners clearly understand, and that no
one has any doubts, that the Armed Forces will be used to
protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Russia and
its allies, including preventative action, and including the use
of nuclear weapons.”

Rice Warns Iran That U.S. Will Defend Allies

Sep 11, 2008; two Russian strategic bombers landed in Venezuela as
part of military maneuvers, President Hugo Chavez said, welcoming
the unprecedented deployment at a time of increasing tensions
between Moscow and the US.

Chavez called the deployment part of a move toward a "pluri-polar world"
a reference to moving away from US DOMINANCE. "The Yankee hegemony
is finished," Chavez said in a televised speech.

“I hope it wasn’t anything I said”

The Russian deployment appeared to be a tit-for-tat response
to the US move to send warships to deliver aid to US-allied
Georgia after its war last month with Russia.

Sept 21, 2008
Russian arms exporter Rosoboron export, has disclosed that despite US
opposition, Moscow intends to empower Iran by supplying the country
additional air defense systems. Moscow has already delivered 29 Tor-M1
missile systems to Iran under a $700 million dollar contract signed in 2005.

"Moscow is playing very strategically on America's obsession with Iran and
Georgia"

Flynn: It is no wonder that comments like yours
isolates good Americans from the rest of the world.

Do you think, this board is where the rest of the world comes to get its
views about Americans? …For some reason, I don’t think so. I think
this makes Americans look bad.

An American

This is also a very narrow view of what Americans really want for America
and the rest of the world. Now, if you want the bigger picture; look at foreign policy.

WHY DO THEY HATE US?

Angola 1975: The CIA was attacking people in the Third World, not the
Soviet Union. This was a Secret War in Angola, this was the third CIA
Secret War. In terms of loss of life and human destruction, this was third
bloodiest war in all of history. The CIA ran operations in every corner of
the globe. They also undertook the license of operating just totally above
and beyond U.S. laws; in the name of America.

WHY DO THEY HATE US?

The CIA manipulated and organized the overthrow of functioning
constitutional democracies in other countries. They organized secret
armies and directed them to fight in just about every continent in the
world. They encouraged ethnic minorities to rise up and fight. People
like the Mosquito Indians in Nicaragua, the Kurds in the Middle East,
and the Hmongs in Southeast Asia.”

“And of course, they have organized, and still do, fund death squads in
countries around the world. Like the Treasury Police in El Salvador
which are responsible for most of the killing of the 50,000 people just
in the ‘80s and there was 70,000 before that. An orchestration of CIA
secret teams and propaganda led us directly into the Korean War.

WHY DOES OUR GOVERNMENT HATE US?

The Golden Triangle in which the CIA Air America airplanes were flying
in arms to our allies and flying back out with the heroin.” “We launched the
largest; this is something that Jimmy Carter did, Admiral Turner brags
operation in Afghanistan. The biggest single operation in the history of
CIA secret wars and sure enough very quickly we produced the Golden
Crescent which is still the largest source of heroin perhaps in the
world today.”

WHY DO THEY HATE US?

A minimum figure of six million people who’ve been killed in this long
40-year war that we have waged against the people of the Third World.”

The other camp included unilateralists like Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz, who
seem at times quite willing to drive the rest of the non-Anglophone world
into the ranks of the anti-US opposition.

Wolfowitz first articulated his vision of the US as a great power which should
tolerate no competitors in a draft Defense Policy Guidance statement ten years ago.

The draft explicitly called for the US to exercise its power unilaterally,
adding that it "must sufficiently account for the interests of the advanced
industrial nations to discourage them from challenging our leadership"
(New York Times, 3/8/92). The draft caused such an uproar when
leaked that it was redrafted to pay lip service to multilateralism
(Financial Times, 5/26/92).

“Our involvement in the Gulf is not transitory. It predated Saddam
Hussein’s aggressions and has survived his death. Long after all our
troops come home, there will be a lasting role for the United States
in assisting the nations of the Persian Gulf.”

My sincerest appology, I'm embarrassed that I didn't spot the sarcasm.

To be honest I looked at your signature picture and thought you should sell that image to the Republicans because it really sums them up.

That blows ( pun intended ) Vinnies argument about an obsolete Russian navy to pieces. As Vinnie so wisely said it takes some strategic aircraft to affect a decent nuclear attack.

Just for the record, NO I don't think Americans flock to this Canadian board for a current affairs update. A large percentage of the Americans who use this board are blinkered Republicans and they adhere to a party political line.

In American terms I am a Democrat voter but I have voted against the party and will do so again if they run a candidate that is a lesser person than the opposition candidate.

Who said it was obsolete? Try not to put words into my mouth. I merely pointed out that the task force dispatched could not control an area greater than about 150 miles in radius.
The Red Banner Fleet or Russian Navy deploys Nuclear Boomer Submarines and sea launched ballistic missiles with a range of greater than 3000 miles so can strike a strategic target from international waters if they want. (not too sure if they could hit slap bang in the middle of the continental USA but they can hit where they need to.
