Default The Election Reporting

I was listening to Radio 4 this evening which had a fairly interesting programme about the election in the USA looking at the struggle for the relligious votes in the State of Ohio (side question: should the word "state" be capitalised there?)

It got me thinking that the election there is being portrayed over here as a division between the religious the racist even to some commentators questioning whether the USA is more racist than it is sexist. I cannot see that either of these tacks of arguement have much valkidity but was wondering wether this dichotomy of commentary is being reflected in other countries or even in the locus itself?

Is this election going to come down to a contest decided in a very small number of states and even a smaller number of districts and if so what does this tell us about the psyche of the voter in the US?

here's a lionk to the BBCi player for the programme (called soul and skin)
