The difference between Lynne Spears and Sarah Palin? Not lipstick!
Lynne Spears is aghast at the injustice of the way she and her teenage daughter, Jamie Lynn Spears, were treated compared to Sarah Palin when her teenage daughter, Bristol Palin's pregnancy was revealed. She has a point. Two mothers. Two pregnant teenage daughters who have -- and will -- keep their babies. Two very different public outcries. |

Lynn was widely vilified as a bad mother who hadn’t raised Jamie Lynn with proper morals, who probably encouraged her daughter to keep her baby so she could use them as a money-making device (selling the pregnancy story and baby photos to OK!). Jamie Lynn was accused of having grown up too fast, gone Hollywood and for having sex at such a young age.
By contrast, Alaska Gov. Palin, John McCain's VP running mate, staunch advocate against abortion and for abstinence, was heralded as being a good mother for supporting her pregnant daughter and advising her to keep her baby. Few thought she'd been irresponsible for not teaching her daughter about birth control. Bristol has received the velvet glove treatment and goes unscathed by criticism for her morals or her behavior, even when she did her command performance at the Republican National Convention with her boyfriend/baby daddy. Lynne talks about all this in an interview in Newsweek to promote her new book about her daughters Jamie Lynn and Britney Spears, “Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World.” Here are some excerpts from the Newsweek interview with Lynne Spears: “It’s as if [Sarah Palin] became celebrated. I mean, the mother, Palin, was celebrated for this. Every woman in the world has applauded her strength and her convictions and poor little old Jamie Lynn, you saw how she was crucified -- everybody did, firsthand. I just feel like it’s been a very hypocritical situation.” Keep reading for Lynne's answer to the criticism that Jamie Lynn’s situation might glamorize teen pregnancy: To the criticism that Jamie Lynn’s situation –- having a healthy happy baby –- might glamorize teen pregnancy: “We don’t want this said, ’cause this would be glamorizing, but I will tell you a secret: Her baby does sleep all night. What do you think about those apples? Maddie is the best baby I have ever seen. She is like a little angel. She’s so content. She laughs and she coos and [is] ahead of herself with her stages. But of course we can’t tell that because then we would just glamorize it more.” Advice to the Palin family: “Everybody’s situation is different. I would never tell anybody else what to do with their child. I would never attempt to make them think I knew more about their child. Even if they were to ask, I would tell them dig deep, what do you think?” And about that OK! cover: "Sometimes, when you're a celebrity, you have to choose the lesser of two evils. So she decided to do the OK! Magazine, give a spread, give some pictures, and it really did ease off the paparazzi. It has lightened up her load a lot .... Did it make it glamorous? It showed her with some cute little shots, having some fun moments with her little family. If they call it glamorous, well I'm sorry. But everybody knows that once you get a new baby, it's the most cherished time of your life -- but it is not glamorous." What do you think? Did the public and the media treat Jamie Lynne and her mom differently than they treated Bristol Palin and Sarah? Should they have? Why? Or why not? Something tells me they'd have nothing to say.
We like to take responsibility when our children are how we wanted to raise them, but what do we say when they aren't? I love the way my children are.. but that's coming from the child of a mother who was 16 when I was born. I accept it but, no, I don't recommend it.

The majority of us, as parents, do the best we can when raising our children and try to teach them right from wrong. Sometimes no matter what we do, things will happen that we don't approve of and we just have to deal with it the best we can. All we can do is show them where they went wrong and still let them know they have our support and help them all we can. I am sure neither mother approved of their unwed daughter getting pregnant and I damn sure don't approve of Jamie Lynn's mother capitalizing on the situation financially. I am proud of the fact that neither took the abortion route..JMO..

Just because these young women are having babies does not mean they had terrible parents. In the throes of teenage passion sometimes birth control is put on the back burner despite the hundreds of times their parents have preached to them about it. Out of 1,221,585,20 abortions, performed in this country every year, these two young ladies put a value on life and did not abort, despite the ridicule they knew they would receive. That's courage!

Or bending to the will of others due to coercion...or maybe just plain stupidity. In Spears' case, they could just let it happen, since there is no such thing as bad publicity in show-biz...however, in Palin's case, the spin-meisters were hard at work trying to fashion that into something that it was not. I mean, didn't they try to claim it was Sarah Palin's baby at first?

I personally think all of this is outragious....... Palin and Spears are no different other than what their mothers do..... I find it very sad to see those damn tabloids pay money for Jamie's suffering, I wonder what it is like to be that kid, I am sure after it is born, Jamie's mother is going to capitolize on it which is going to make that poor thing suffer....... I remember hearing a few months ago that the father left, which makes me mad...... he got her into this mess and he should support her............

that makes me think if palin stands for "no sex education" there will be a lot more teenage single mums to be... and not all get the support of there family or can hire a nanny to look after there babies.. |
