wow we get asked a question to debate that is so wide open about anything we don't want to do or wouldnt do is called into question should we be forced to do it..and we get told that if it "gets out of hand bringing in the subject of religion or GOD there can be and will be deletes ...."
And as for the "not every thread that Patrish starts or participates in has to have religion in it ...." Ok .. maybe ,maybe not..Ive not looked at ALL her threads, so I'll just say 90 % of them do in fact have to do with Catholic beliefs and God. The only point about God brought into this discussion because just as you stated Spiderweb, "Patrish's question is broad and can be applied to many different scenario's ..." And God is one of those "scenario's" When asked for more clarification by Pat were given this.."More specifically...hmmmmm. Well, if someone wanted you to kill someone but you didnt like to kill - should they be forced to kill anyway? " So what if that "person" was God as some people have claimed.? And isnt convenient that its the "crazy" who always "hear God"? |

Pat says "The question is broad... because i want to know if ppl feel they should be forced to do something they do not find acceptable."
Would a vegetarian eat meat because they were forced to? Would a sound minded person eat cow dung? Should a cat lover be made to eat a cat? Or a dog lover eat a dog? It may or may not be legal, or moral...but i am asking - " Im with Steven... the answer is NO. |

Should you be forced to do something that you do not wish to is a very vague question. It comes down to what are you being asked to do and to society's norms. If the act uis in keeping with societal norms then yes if you wish to remain part of that society then there should be some form of censure to ensure that you act or continue to act in accordance with those norms.
There is a question of how far the censure should infringe upon the rights of the person but that very use of "rights" implies that there is a concomitant Duty upon the person. As memebers of a society we all give up some parts of our rights to the duty of the society. Thus we accept that the government can force us to pay taxes, take driving tests, register gun ownership send our children to school etc. Now how far you are willing to accept the censure of the society in defence of your rights will vary from person to person. I would have no problem registering a firearm and sitting a driving test, you may be different. I approve of a degree of taxation but if the amount is raised to extreme levels then I might seek to avoid some of those taxes (avoid, not evade).

Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light |
