I'd like to get some reviews from my European and Canadian friends on how good their coverage is and how high of an income/payroll tax they pay.
I know there is always isolated horror stories, but I'd like to see the big picture.
Alot of Obama's opponents are against his recent push, citing the state of our economy....but that's exactly when Great Britain started their's - right after the war, when they were in dire straits (great band, BTW )

Anyway...thoughts, comments, plans???

I completely agree...

Dire Straits is an awesome band, and Mark Knopfler is one of my favorite guitarists...

As for Health Care, I have no real complaints about our Canadian system...

Okay, okay, OK!!!!
I know I said I'd consider a healthcare system re-build....but to REQUIRE coverage???

Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Americans who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage could be hit with fines of more than $1,000 under a health care overhaul bill unveiled Thursday by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.
The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines will raise around $36 billion over 10 years. Senate aides said the penalties would be modeled on the approach taken by Massachusetts, which now imposes a fine of about $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to get coverage. Under the federal legislation, families would pay higher penalties than individuals.
Proposed by a key democrat, huh??!!
No way Obama would go for this

In a statement, Obama welcomed the legislation, saying it “reflects many of the principles I've laid out,

It seems, in order to pay for his plan, he will raise taxes on "the rich".
By rich, he means those making more than $280,000 per year.
That's a HUGE slice of business owners....more than half of which would be considered 'small' business owners (fewer than 50 employees).....in other words....those most in a position to hire or not to hire based on their tax burden.
The owner of my restaurant would fall into this category.
How do you think he will absorb this extra tax weight?
Cut jobs? Cut hours? Cut pay? Cut benefits? Raise prices?
Or how about no more advertising expenses, which would lower customer count....which would still cause the same result to jobs, hours, pay, etc....
Another extra cost hits the books next week..... a 21 cent per hour minimum wage increase. I have to keep my labor percentage the same. How do you suppose I do that?
I have to cut hours for a single mom, two girls (one of them a single mom also)that are working their way through college, and another kid that just moved out onto his own after graduating high school, AND another guy that just found out his wife is pregnant.
I GET to cut their hours to make sure I'm not spending more than I was.
.
.
.
And you know what REALLY sucks????
By the time I get through cutting their schedule, they won't be eligible for our company's health coverage!!!!!

So Obama gets to make welfare bigger, while at the same time creating a brand new generation of welfare dependant people!!!!!

The problem is that this will go right over the heads of the people who have taken too many hits off of the hope and change bong. "But look how handsome Obama is and I'm just mesmerized when he speaks so he must know what he's talking about."

This UHC stinks out loud and it wont be helping the elderly.
Its going to hurt them.
Their health care needs will be last on the list especially because they are older. [and unwanted]

We all grow old eventually.

I have heard that Canadians come to America for immediate care because the waiting list is horrible.

IF feds take over, you can bet, just like the social security program, it will be a mess.

You can chalk it up to inexperienced young voters who thot he was cute.

His approval rating dropped...to 52%
And just wait until peeps have to pay back the stimulus checks...
He will definitely be at an overall 30% approval rating.

College students who take the check - who are 'under the assistance of parents' - will be paying it back, and how?
Ya know they are going to spend it without knowing, and next year - they will be paying it back.

Interesting.

How can we rely on the government for healthcare?
The government has no business running healthcare needs.

Remember what happened to HMO's?

Bury this idea in the 1000+ pages of the new health care bill the dems are preparing and they will pass it without ever reading it.

The Perfect Solution to Senior Health Care

While discussing the upcoming Universal Health Care Program with my sister-in-law the other day, I think we have found the solution. I am sure you have heard the ideas that if you're a senior you need to suck it up and give up the idea that you need any health care. A new hip? Unheard of. We simply can't afford to take care of you anymore. You don't need any medications for your high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, etc. Let’s take care of the young people. After all, they will be ruling the world very soon.

So here is the solution. When you turn 70, you get a gun and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot 2 senators and 2 representatives. Of course, you will be sent to prison where you will get 3 meals a day, a roof over your head and all the health care you need!!! New teeth, great!!! Need glasses, no problem. New hip, knee, kidney, lung, heart? Well bring it on. And who will be paying for all of this. The same government that just told you that you are too old for health care. And, since you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income tax.

I really think we have a Perfect Solution!!!
