Is that Jungle Jingles or Bojangle Jingles, or spurs that go jingle, jangle, jingle, as he rides off into the sunset with his cowboy buddy, "All hat, ho cattle" G.W. Bush?

Default A look back at a legacy...

The Bush Legacy (of Failure)

1. Ecomony = FAIL
We all know the economy sucks. People are losing their homes and jobs and the only people receiving hand outs are a bunch of corporate asshats who don't deserve it. The national debt is now 10.6 trillion, 4 million people became unemployed from 2000 to 2008 and the gross national product and Dow Jones are going down the tubes.

2. Infrastructure = FAIL
Bridges and roads suffered major failures under the Bush administration. It didn't help that SUV drivers were given kick backs, making the damn machines more popular and crowding up streets. One-third of roads nation-wide are in poor condition and 70,000 bridges were declared structurally deficient. Meanwhile, the Bush administration is proposing a cut of $202.1 million for public transportation - apparently spending $17.4 billion in the auto maker bailout doesn't mean we need good roads on which to drive all those stupid vehicles.

3. Iraq = FAIL
How long ago did we get that "Mission Accomplished" bullshit from the Bush administration? Cuz it sure as hell doesn't seem like the fucking war is over yet. 4,222 military deaths and over 3 trillion dollars later, things aren't getting any better. This war costs us $12 billion each month and the military predicts it will take at least $250 billion to repair the Army's resources and equipment.. of course, that's just for the vehicles and such that have been damaged so far.

4. Human Rights = FAIL
Never mind the torture that did receive public attention, the US was involved with tons of activities that went against basic human rights during the Bush administration. About 100 "detainees" under US custody - that's people held without any legal cause and usually tortured - have died and over 35 have simply disappeared. And let's not forget all of our rights to privacy that the Patriot Act destroyed.

5. Hurricane Katrina = FAIL
Arguably the worst disaster to hit an American city since 9/11, Katrina affected 15 million people and caused the loss of 400,000 jobs and 275,000 homes. The death toll is still unclear, but it is believed to be about 1,500 with 700 people still missing. New Orleans is still only at 72% of the population it had before the storm. Despite Congress approving $122 billion to go to the region, not many results seem to have come from it. Insurance costs from the storm were over $40 billion, affecting everyone who has home insurance. The Bush administration showed no leadership in this tragedy and all but abandoned the city of New Orleans after the storm hit. Trillions of dollars go to a war in another country and Bush can't even take care of his problems at home. Shame, shame.

6. Health Care = FAIL
Bush's drug plan has turned out to be one of the biggest new entitlement programs of the past 40 years, forcing the government to pay the high prices of drugs once dealt with by the consumer and protecting drug companies for no good reason. Noticing a trend yet on who gets ahead the most when Republicans are in office? Brand name drugs are 70% more expensive here than in Canada. Bush also denied health care benefits for 4 million children by vetoing a bill to assist families with children. 46 million Americans, about 18%, are without insurance and the average cost of health care for employees has risen 120% since 2000.

7. Climate = FAIL
Seven of the hottest years on record have happened since 2000, despite the Bush administration's denial of climate change and suppression and censorship of scientific information backing it up. The sea level has risen 40 feet, areas of the Southwest USA are turning into deserts, extreme temperatures are affecting the farming industry and this unaddressed climate change is projected to cost us 20 percent of the world gross domestic product.

Kudos to all of us who had a part in ending this administration! It has been total suckage.

still can't manage solutions.....just forever looking backwards, and pointing blame.
It's time our President stood up and took ownership of his office and start doing something about these issues:

Economy?:
2million jobs lost since taking office. Spent more money so far than all presidents combined before him, promising this "Stimulus" would freeze unemployment at 8% (now at 9.6% and climbing--highest in 26 years). Now suggesting a "Stimulus II" when only 10% of the first one has been spent so far. After promising to only raise taxes on those making more than $250K, the average American family of 4 will pay $1400 more in taxes this year than last year. Let's forget about the wide-sweeping tax cuts that were initiated by the previous administration. (not only forget them, let's stop them in this term)

Infrastructure?:
Where's all these "Shovel-Ready" projects that are supposed to create jobs? We could put the auto-makers into this category since they're key to any of these projects getting done. Biggest government take over of private business in history. More "Czars" than Russia's history!!!

War?:
Yea, it sucks. But 4,222 Anerican deaths?Over 6 years? Seems like alot-and one is tragic enough-but we would lose more than that in just one day (or one battle)in any other wars! And still managed to kill fewer Iraqis than Saddam did.

Human Rights category is still in the "innocent until proven guilty" stage...

Katrina?:
Responsibilty for that fiasco begins and ends at the state level. The federal government does not have the authority to step into state matters unless and until they are asked. In Florida we never had any problems with response time.

Health Care?:
You forgot one key word...biggest government entitlement THUSFAR. Wait until Barry gets ahold of it! Current bill proposes $1000 fine if you don't use his plan!

Climate?:
Because this new "Cap&Trade" program will solve all of these problems!
Just as the title of this thread says, "more Government Control"

Good post Horty. To most people Bush is history, and our country is trying to focus on the here and now. Did Bush make mistakes? Oh yeah, plenty....but now is the time to stop putting our energy into what could of been, and into, what do we do to make things better? I'm more concerned about the future than the past. Another stimulus???? You cannot spend your way out of a recession. The first stimulus was nothing but Obama's pet pork projects, (millions going into National Parks, nature trails, art centers, Federal buildings, etc.) not stimulating anything. The jobs these projects create will be taxpayer funded. Another stimulus package will just put another nail in the American coffin. The Rasmussen Reports say 60% of Americans are opposed to another stimulus.

Let's step back and take a reasoned examination. In 1932 the U. S. was gripped in the Great Depression. The lassiez faire programs of Herbert Hoover wasn't working. Along came Franklin Roosevelt with his socialistic "New Deal" program. In order to put people to work he created many programs we would call pork today. The Civilian Conservation Corps put young men to work improving National parks, nature trails and erosion control, helping build dams and roadside parks. (Didn't make a single product, but are still giving pleasure to us whenever we get out on the road).
The W. P. A. provided jobs to the unemployed, taking them off the soup lines and letting them be proud to earn a paycheck. These jobs were labor intensive, improved the infrastructure, and make people feel useful. They also had the artist project, that put murals in public buildings, created posters, sculpture, etc. Not mass producing anything but definitely keeping their skills up and getting us out of the U. S. S. R. style drab cube buildings. The writers project documented society, The Photography project gave us visual, though stark, of everyday life in the Depression. The U. S. Census records were microfilmed and indexed, so we can find our ancestors all the way back to 1790.
The Tennessee Valley Authority provided affordable electric power, flood control, recreation and brought the Southeastern U.S. into the 20th Century.
In 1932, there were 13 million unemployed. In 1940 there were 6 million. That took 8 years to accomplish.
Barak Obama was sworn in on Jan 20th. He has been in office 171 days. There are no instant cures for the world's woes, unless someone has the genie's lantern. Let's slow down on the draw and not shoot prematurely. Premature evaluation is as bad as premature ejactulation.

can you tell my wife that for me????

I am more than willing to give the new Prez a fair shake.
I just get tired of the blame game.
DO SOMETHING.
Even the stimulus wouldn't piss me off so much if they'd at least SPEND IT!! they haven't barely scratched the surface of it, and already talking about more.
I'd love to see some shovel-ready projects started, but so far Blue areas have received more than twice as much as Red areas.
Guess which one really needs it most?

Hortysir

It just goes to show how bad the American economy was run by the Republicans and how much corruption still exists from the Bush era of buddies with their snouts in the treasurey troth of money.

Australia is one of those countries that spent their way out of the recession and now we have positive growth again. That is a contrast to America's economy which is still experiencing record unemployment figures, more buisness and personal bankruptcies and more families being evicted from homes they could never afford.

Syb's and your assumption that a country can not spend their way out of a recession is wrong. I will concede that America owes so much money Internationally that it is a harder task for America than other countries but you would have to ask.... Why is that ?

Answer... Mismanagement by the Bush Administration.

From an outsiders point of view I would suspect the worsening economy is a direct result of the Old Christian Republicn Guard not getting behind their new administration and working together as a team to make sure their country crawls out of the economic mire that the Bush government put them in.
