AR Muslim women in the work place could become a nightmare for some employers in the areas of identity abuse and communication. Muslim women who are brainwashed into believing the Burqa has beneficial social, moral or religious values are being lied to. |

....and America has been accused of forcing our culture on the rest of the world???
They have been wearing this attire for centuries. Why, as outsiders, should anyone speak up now and try to regulate their attire? As a Floridian, I disagree with our rule requiring Muslim women to bare their head for drivers' licenses (thought they weren't allowed to drive) or even ID cards. That encroaches on their freedom of religious practice. As T eluded to; where does another culture's encroachment over another stop? |

while theyre out to ban the burrka let extend that to the way the Amish and Pentecostals and Menonites dress too.. lets make them give up those silly beliefs of modesty and tellthem to forsake their belief ...they all need to get with the " real " religeous beliefs of modern society.
Seriously...there are far more Islamic women who wear the burrka or Horna ..or other head coverings because they feel it lifts them up spiritually. Im sure some wear it begrudgedly. Banning them (the Burrka) will not free them of abuse,..infact it may even increase problems for them. |

I love this board it is everything a Non American needs to get an insight into the minds of ordinary American people. Hortysir If you travelled to a Non English speaking country you could still get a McDonalds burger a KFC chicken or a CocaCola. The other amazing thing you will find is that a lot of times your American dollars will be acceptable. So let me be the first to assure you, America has left it's cultural imprint in foreign countries. They have been wearing that attire for centuries ? Longevity does not make it right. The reason people should speak up now is that the issue should be addressed before it gets further out of control. This is the kicker. You disagree that Muslim women should not be forced to show their idenity for getting a drivers licenence or an identity card. That must also apply when a Muslim woman gets a concealed hand gun licence. Where does it stop ? If our law enforcement officers are to do their jobs properly and protect us they need to be able to identify people who would do us harm. Muslim women will not necessarily do anyone harm but it is a great disguise for a man with murder and mayhem on his mind. |

I can pull several several threads, or thread-replies where you have chasticed Americans for our cultural over-reaching.
Why, now, is it okay to force "western' culture on others? Are you scared of Muslim women and nuns? Do Saudi police forces have trouble identifying suspects? Or Afghan police? Is it really such a crime wave where men are dressing as Muslim women to perpetrate crime? |

That's called Chauvinism, in its original and primary meaning, is an exaggerated, bellicose patriotism and a blind belief in national superiority and glory. [1] By extension it has come to include an extreme and unreasoning partisanship on behalf of any group to which one belongs, especially when the partisanship includes malice and hatred towards a rival group.

Hortysir
I can pull several several threads, or thread-replies where you have chasticed Americans for our cultural over-reaching. I’m sure you can pull lots of things in reply to my posts. Why, now, is it okay to force "western' culture on others? You’d have to point out where I said it’s OK to force Western culture onto others. If Non Western people wish to immigrate to your or my country they should accept the fact that our cultures are different to their own and if they are not comfortable with western values they should live somewhere that is more acceptable to their own way of life. That does not mean they should forget their ethnic past. Australia's closest neighbour is Indonesia, they are predominantly Islamic, they eat live monkey brains as part of a normal diet. If we adopted your ideals we would have to explain to former Indonesians who immigrated to Australia that the monkeys in our zoo's are not afternoon tea snack, so hands off, it's not something we want our children to see. Are you scared of Muslim women and nuns? I prefer to know the other people on public transport are not hiding a surprise under their Burqa or Habit. Do Saudi police forces have trouble identifying suspects? Or Afghan police? You’d have to do the research on that one, it is not of interest to me to find the answer to your question. Is it really such a crime wave where men are dressing as Muslim women to perpetrate crime? Not that I presently know but when a potential problem is indentified I expect it to be dealt with. |
