As a "melting pot" we are constantly persuaded to be more tolerant.
The idea behind the O seems contrary to that. The baggy pants of this age could just as easily concele danger. I just don't see the logic in wanting to strip a person of their persoanl identity just so others can see it... |

HS As per usual you digress to try and suit your own argument. Baggy pant wearing hoodlums do not cover up their identity and if they did it would be just cause for a police officer to ask them to identify themselves. The police would want the baggy pant boy from the hood to be able to produce some sort of photo identity, if not, it would be a trip to the local police station until it was sorted. Drag this debate to any tangent you want, the point remians that in this day and age our law enforcement officers and government officials need to know who they are dealing with. There has been no acceptable reason given as to why the Burqa and Hijab should be worn. Muhammed is quoted in the Koran as saying women should dress modestly, the Koran does not state or imply that the Burqa or Hijab must be worn. It is not acceptable for women from an Islamic background to use religion as a reason for not having an identity photo taken when they live in a Western society. |

The Bible tells women the same thing. To dress modestly.
Pentacostal women wear long dresses and their hair in a bun...Homish and Quakers keep their heads covered, et.al.... It's their personal interpretaion of their religion. Who are we to step into that? |

H. You can step in anything you want to, I'm careful where I tread. Let me run you through my main objection to the Burqa and Hijab again, you don't seem to have grasped it yet. The Burqa and Hijab cover a persons identity. Lets get over that hurdle first before we start discussing other religious garb. To my knowledge God has not delivered a message to any religious group about dress regulations. If God had done that I'm sure a message would have gone out to the Catholic Pope that wearing a maroon coloured dress and red shoes is not Kosher. |

Which only shows your extremely limited knowledge of religious groups and their communication with the Divine.

I just feel that they are unwarranted. It is their right/freedom to do so. It's been discussed time and time again that person's rights end at someone else's. I don't see how their wearing this attire intrudes on someone else's rights. Are you saying that we have a right to see what they look like? |

Finally I have the time to reply to this thread. Any idea how frustrating it was to read this thread, wanting to reply to it so badly and not have the time to reply to it?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I am against the burqa For several reasons: For safety. (i once tried one on just to see how it feels. well it's heavy, it's extremly warm, when you breath you have the feeling like you are having a scarf around your mouth.,...and you can't see things very well because of the net)....the same counts for the Niqab. (which is almost the same as the burqa except the net before the eyes) But the main reason FOR me....is because to my opinion it's female oppression and has nothing to do with religion but rather with culture. As in most muslim countries women do not wear burqa's or niqabs. And why does a woman have to cover herself up to be "safe" against men? For not to be seen as a sex object? ![]() And here I was thinking men were the "Stronger" Sex. Men should learn to control themself. The problem is with them. Not with the women. But I guess that counts for every religion. I can't speak for other muslima's because I guess everybody has their own reason to wear what they wear. But I prefer to see someone's eyes and face when I talk to them. The Koran says that we have to wear decent and we have to cover up modest. But where is the line of decent and modesty? A nice sweater and skirt/pants can be decent as well. And if you want to wear a veil....please do....I also don't mind the hijab because the hijab shows the face and if she wants to wear it then let her. BUT! For muslims in Western countries. I think burqa's and niqabs are way too much. One of the things muslims are not supposed to do is to attrack attention to themself. And I think you get lots of attention walking around like this......and I personally have a problem with that. The same as I have a problem with Western women going to Egypt or another Arabic country making camel rides while wearing nothing but a bikini.
