LMP
Maybe I don't take enough notice of individual members personal stats or I just plain forgot your connection to Muslims. I'm pleased that you replied though. I have some questions about the subject and getting an honest reply from someone with first hand knowledge would be a bonus. Busy, busy, busy, so am I today but I will get back to you when sunday brunch is done. I was thinking about what you said in regards to women not wearing the Burqa in most Muslim countries. I had neighbours who were Greek Authodox Catholic, I spoke to their son when he came back from a 6 month holiday to the greek Islands with his gradparents uncles and aunts. He couldn't believe his parents in Australia were more strict in regards to religious and moral tolerance than his relatives were. |

One pearl to you.
The term Greek Orthodox Church is never linked to the pejorative word "Catholic". T

Again you missed the obvious!
The Greek Orthodox Church is not a CATHOLIC church. They don't use that word in connection to their church. (Takes back pearl and leaves over-ripe apple) T

T.
Focus The Burqa, we are discussing the banning of the Burqa and Hijab in Western countries, please try and stay on topic. If it makes you feel better Greek Orthodox are not Catholic, my bad, I thought they were, my Greek neighbours refered to themselves as Catholics, if I see Yanos again I will tell him he is not Catholic. I think the main point here is, my post which you are disecting, was made in reply to LMP, there was a reason I replied with that particular post to her and now I thank you for correcting my error but if all you have to offer on the subject of banning the Burqa is to correct my spelling and to point out that Greek Orthodox are not Catholic then I suggest you go play some where else. |

I'm sure we could use fingerprints (or even DNA) as an alternative form of identification. No need to take away a person's religious rights just so we can see their face or feel better about ourselves because we 'saved' them from opression. Religious freedom and the right to bear arms are for all citizens. As long as this individual has not done anything that would exempt them, there is no reason why they should be allowed to own a gun. { besides a photo id is not required to own a gun - only if you wish to carry it 'concealed' } |

![]() And as for me being a muslima....that is a personal thing.....and I dont really feel the urge to push my religion down other people's throat. ![]() I know exactly what you mean about the neighbour's son and what he said. It's the same overhere...and it's "funny" to see that the 2nd and 3rd generation sometimes have the same ideas and thoughts as their grandparents when they moved here 30 yrs ago....while the people in their home countries moved on....made progress....are more modern. I have noticed that people from Afghanistan and Iran who moved to Western countries integrated faster and easier than some 2nd generation immigrant. Don't ask me why. As for religious freedoms...things can get too far. When I had my picture taken for my passport and drivers licence...the new rules overhere were that you are not suppose to laugh on the photo anymore...and both your ears have to been seen. Why would you make an exception for a small group of people? It's also ridiculous because if i was wearing a burqa then that way i could make an income out of it...Because I could rent my passport and driver's licence to other burqa wearing women. ![]()

I agree that it should be the lady's choice first and foremost, but in a country with such strict views when it comes to women and such an apparent strong hold on their thinking, who's to say we'll ever know what it is they really want. The Burga is just a piece of clothing, but to most people it represents control and human dignity, or lack there of.......so .....I think time would be better spent on transporting these women if not this entire country into the 21st century, the rest will follow 'suit'. Do we really want people who can't read or write to drive a car or own guns ? It's not worth me discussing this with you further I think it best if you seek information from people like LilMissPurrfect who have first hand knowledge of being a Muslim in the year 2009. Your ideas belong in an age that has already passed most humans by. |
