Should we lift prohibition as the Mexican government has ?

quote CBC news

MEXICO CITY - Mexico this week legalized possession of small quantities of drugs such as heroin, marijuana and cocaine, arguing that limited resources are better used in the fight against organized drug crime.

Individuals will not be prosecuted for possession of "any of the narcotics listed, at the listed quantity or less," reads in part the new law, published in the Official Gazette August 20.

The change means Mexicans can possess up to five grams of marijuana, 500 mg of cocaine, two grams of opium or 50 mg of heroin among other drugs without fear of prosecution.

Instead of charging people with drug possession, the new law calls on authorities to inform health providers so that rehab or other medical action can be pursued. But it was not immediately clear how that process would work.

The president argued that the country's resources would be better utilized against the drug cartels responsible for thousands of deaths throughout Mexico than in arresting drug users for possession of small quantities of narcotics.

Some US media outlets have voiced concern that the new law might encourage US drug users to engage in "drug tourism," visiting neighboring Mexico to take advantage of its new narcotics rules.

Marijuana, I could see. I've never known anyone so addicted to pot that they'd steal to support their habit.
Coke and smack just breeds too many other crimes

I personally would not mind if the US was to pass the same law...I smoke marijauna..that is no secret here on the roo.....I dont pass it out to little children, and Im not saling it on the streets..........I smoke at home, in my own time, and dont leave the house either...so I dont see how me having a bag of weed would hurt anyone else.......so I dont think that it should be illegal to have in my possession for my OWN use......Thats just my opinion..

Would cocaine or heroin draw such logic?

Iv'e pretty much looked at marijuana use as a victimless crime, especially under the guidelines you said you enforce for yourself.

It is mostly hydroponic marijuana that is sold on Australian streets and I can tell you from personal experience it's as good as it gets when it comes to quality and potency.

The sale of marijuana has opened up a whole new cottage industry in Australia. People steal electricity to grow marijuana and there are many rental properties burnt down because a marijuana crop went wrong.

It's rare to be offered an organic product these days.

If anyone buys marijuana at street level they have to accept that someone further back on the wholesale side is making money and that's the unacceptable part.

So I have to disagree, that you or I having a bag of weed is not hurting anybody.

The only way that is true is if you grow your own.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on that Flynn..........it has been that way for years...the only way you can know if you are getting a clean product is growing your own.......but it may be a little safer, if it was Legalized...then, you can grow your own, without worrying about getting in trouble.

MsyRoss

Easter is traditionally harvest time for more than just fruit and vegetables in the Eastern States of Australia.

As with most fresh produce marijuana has a price tag set by supply and demand and it goes up and down with the seasons.

If an Australian smoker wanted to be sure they had something in the cupboard for Christmas then August/September is the time where you do your sums and " go figure " how much of a supply you need to see you through to the New Year.

When you figure that out, then you have to find someone that has still got some decent home grown at a reasonable price.

Other than that, start making arrangements to buy hydro gear for outrageous prices and remember to say Merry Christmas to your dealer.

I was arrested for having 0.05mgs. of Methamphetamines in my system. When in court even the D.A. asked my Lawyer why the heck is he even here?
Didn't matter I still was sentenced to 6 months in jail for which I did 8 days and fined $3,500.00 plus court cost. For a $5.00 line of speed.
Is that fair?

With my legs the way they are I do not get any relief from the medications the doctors prescribe to me that my Medi-Cal now I.E.H.P. (WHICH IS WORST) will cover.

Is this fare?
