Exclamation Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize

Quote:
LONDON – The surprise choice of President Barack Obama for the Nobel Peace Prize drew praise from much of the world Friday even as many pointed out the youthful leader has not yet accomplished much on the world stage.
The new president was hailed for his willingness to reach out to the Islamic world, his commitment to curtailing the spread of nuclear weapons and his goal of bringing the Israelis and Palestinians into serious, fruitful negotiations.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, who won the prize 1984, said Obama's award shows great things are expected from him in the coming years.
"In a way, it's an award coming near the beginning of the first term of office of a relatively young president that anticipates an even greater contribution towards making our world a safer place for all," he said. "It is an award that speaks to the promise of President Obama's message of hope."
He said the prize is a "wonderful recognition of Obama's effort to reach out to the Arab world after years of hostility.

So he wins an election with a promise of Hope and Change......now he gets nominated only 2 weeks into his Presidency, which sounds like it was his speech tour that got him the Prize. So he wins because of a Hope for Change..

Proud moment for Americans?
Or the world kissing his butt?

haha...they threw shoes at your last president.

I'd say you should be proud of what Obama is doing for your country, and the world...especially since your previous president gave you so much cause for shame...

While I am proud that an American President won this very noble Nobel...i feel it was awarded on expectations rather than actual deeds

Again, considering the 'deeds' of your previous president, let's face it...the bar had been lowered considerably.

Bush and Cheney were all about starting wars, and even presented faulty intelligence to coerce Congress to vote in favour of war. I mean, it would be wrong to nominate anyone from the Bush administration for anything even remotely associated with peace.

I think Obama has already accomplished a lot, and could accomplish even more, if the racist right-wingers weren't so busy trying to paint him as a communist/socialist/whatever...and just let him get on with trying to reform America's ailing economy, and attrocious healthcare system.

I think Obama has helped America to be seen as a serious world player again, with a thoughtful and compassionate leader at the helm...as opposed to the village idiot, that Bush was rightfully seen as.

I mean, as outdated and comical as your lax-ass gun 'laws' are, your healthcare system is even worse, and it needs serious reform...not half-assed measures, that continue to favour the rich. (IMO)

So, yeah...I feel it's deserved, and by awarding him with it, it shows that the world notices, and appreciates his accomplishments, and his further efforts towards peace and unity.

After all, all of us are one people...

Do you have a boner for George or what? You can't reply to any topic without digging him up. Look FORWARD, child of Hope!
There goes that race-card again. Anything that's not glowing Bam-Bam's ass must be racially motivated.
I would really like to hear what you think Obama has accomplished. Not speeches...DEEDS

All I ask for is an Accomplishment.
The SNL skit I referred to even pointed out that he hasn't accomplished his goals.
Even the President, himself, said:

I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations.

Iran is optimistic:

AFP reported that "The Nobel Peace Prize awarded to US President Barack Obama Friday should prompt him to start working towards ending injustice in the world, an aide to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told AFP. 'We hope that this gives him the incentive to walk in the path of bringing justice to the world order,' said Ali Akbar Javanfekr, Ahmadinejad's media aide. 'We are not upset and we hope that by receiving this prize he will start taking practical steps to remove injustice in the world.' In particular, Javanfekr outlined two areas where he said Obama must act to prove he is worthy of the prize. 'If he removes the veto from the United Nations Security Council, then it shows the prize was given correctly to him,' Javanfekr said."

That was a truthful and good response. Shows humility.

It would be nice for the focus to remain on those aspirations mentioned.
