Mazbut, with you being in Pakistan, I really put alot of weight in your thoughts.
4 out of the past 5 days Taliban operatives have staged attacks in your country. I can't see a place for them in the Afghan government. Can you? |

Even today there was a suicide blast in Shangla up North killing more than 30 and maiming more than 40 or so! The US drone attacks and operation there seem to have scattered them all over the place....made them more desperate because their grievances are not being attended too....I don't think war will be successful....US forget that people there are tribal sort-martial ---poor- having nothing to lose but their lives which they would sacrifice as per their tribal laws. They are settled on both sides of long Pak_Afghan border .... no way to overcome them through war. BTW the US doesn't seem to have a good reason for waging war againt them as they are not all al-Quaida....Instead of banging on the head of every suspect US should hit hard on the actual culprits --just saying this is war agaqinst terrorism is a vague term...terrorism is an abstract thing!! Why does US want to be the watchman of the world? Many nations don't like it. The US talks about democracy but makes friends with non-democratic nations, mainly monarchies, why this double standard?? Those who are killed by the US and its allies up north Pak-Afghanistan are becoming more and more desperate and it goes without saying that some other country or agency is helping them., someone is surely giving them weapons. What matters if the Talibans want Islamic rule in their country?? Why not give them the right or freedom they want? I don't think warring would make situation better. Even if the Talibs are not able to acquire the puppet Afghan govt they continue to hold possession of a great area there... I personally think war is useless and will get US nowhere...sorry |

Al-Quaida is just a 'phantom' same as WMD were! Motives are something else....Palestine prob is one of them, the other are known to both the factions involved. |

In my opinion Al-Quaida may be a group but Taliban are yet another group. Both may be sympathetic toward each other but specifically they are not the same. Now the Talibans are also branching out and spreading to areas other than Pak-Afghanistan border! |

It's an unfortunate fact that even groups like Taleban will have to be taken into the political process if it's going to get anywhere. They may be covered by a figleaf to avoid embarrassment (it's not the IRA it's Sinn Fein) but unlesss you are offering a political solution then there is no incentive for them to give up the guns even if they are not winning.
