so true....
listening to Taliban's grievances with open heart and settling the issues with them will surely weaken Al-Quaida and maybe the Talibs pick up their guns against them! Bombing them is only dispersing them in all directions....and the trouble is now not restricted only to North Pakistan or Afghanistan it is going deep down South among another Taliban-sympathizing martial ethnicities. They are also switching over to urban areas like Karachi with a population of more than 20.Million and they are strong even there...According to reports they have lot of funds.....acquired through
opium cultivation ,trading contrabands and money laundering. The US ought to think on different lines such as bringing social and economic reforms in disturbed areas rather than funding corrupt governments....

But cultural and economic regeneration are long term ideal that are just not sexy...it's hard to sell foreign aid to an electorate who want tax cuts. Even when it's demonstrably in their own best interests.

That's true but what have the big powers gained with the 10 year long on_ going war???
All money spent on war is going down the drain...in exploding bombs, deaths and unending disaster.

Without a political solution there is no way to control the mad men there or any where else....

Al-Quaida has word wide roots.....ending( which seems impossible) a prob here would start new prob somewhere else. You can see how Pakistan has now got involved directly in your WAR! Pakistanis and Talibs being Muslims have generally sympathetic outlook towards each other...if the Nato approaches Pakistan that would be horrible for all! Iran is again a Muslim state adjacent to Pakistan,,,,,it would be like stirring the pot more vigorously to the loss of the international community!
The US should catch Osama or anyone who was involved in 9/11 and throw them in the mincer. But, who and where is Osama and where is Al Quaida? All seems phantomous!

Well, the war you call "our's" would still be going on in Pakistan even without our help.
As I recall Pakistan and the Taliban have never been BFFs...
American administrations won't get to the bottom of the 911 attackers, because that would mean going up against Saudi Arabia...and we all know why they won't do that!!

I take your point on going against Soddies.

Pakistan and the US raised these Talibs as Mujahideens of yore against USSR.
They have become a carcinogenic sore in the crotch now....it won't be fair if US left Pakistan in this difficult time.

I don't think the US will leave Pakistan hanging.
But Pakistan has been tying our hands when it comes to persuing AlQuada across their border

Whatever, but it should not be overlooked that Pakistan itself is a victim of terrorism...

I do not agree with this. The brainwashing if any is indigenous...how can a person born and brought up in the West could be brainwashed by illiterate and ignorant Talibs??
