Same with the restaurant industry. I make it very clear to any new hires that weekends and holidays are our busy time, so don't expect them off

If you are not religious or patriotic why shouldn't you be allowed to work? It's normally double time on these days as well. I worked all Xmas holidays for 10 years and never worried about it, The Ships could not wait up for 2 days due to the tides etc etc. What if all the electric/gas workers had the days off as well, cooking your turkey over a candle light you'll be there till the next thanksgiving. People always shout about keeping it Holy tilll it affects them. Sit at home in the dark and the cold with no television and 3 miserable kids and say WOW! this is fun, wish we had thanksgiving everyday.

When I was nursing full time holidays didn't exist, but yep, knew that going in. The sick and injured don't take off on holidays.

I know what you mean..been in retail myself...
but im sure they find some extra staff for the late hrs...
or would they pay overtime
..im sure you wont be on from 7 ish til midnight..on a bankholiday..
over here work is 8hrs max...or overtime pay or you get hrs.granted...
like time off..
but it mite be also anything possible these days... at this global job crisis..not sure
looks like we are going backwards 100 yrs. now in everything

syba..my mother in law worked as a nurse in the uk...
weekend bankholiday nights for bupa...was 3 times the pay..
taxidriver s charge extra after a certain time and best days are days as new years days..
those make up for the days the dont have much costumers..
I was surprized when i found that out...and couldnt believe we paid a double fee at a weekend night for a taxi..lol
well that was about 10yrs ago..not sure if it still is..lol

It's really more of a nostalgia (in my case anyway) of days gone by...a simpler time, when everything and everybody wasn't going full-tilt 24-7-365

"Nothing of significance happened on this day" (or something to that effect)
