I just LOVE when people come in and say, "Oh, I can't believe you have to work today"
Well, bitch, if you weren't here I wouldn't HAVE to!!!
I definitely heard that before, not for a holiday cause I was in banking for the most part and they still close for alot of the holidays.... but it was a snow day and most of the city was shutting down, the bank just had to be open and damnit if my first customer didn't come strolling in there to cash a $10 rebate check. lol

If it's open, the shoppers will go

Then stand up for yourself, and tell the greedy manager you're not coming in...

I think even worse than being open on Thanksgivings day, though, is being open on Remeberence Day. To me, that is absolute, utterly ourageous horse-sh*t, and a slap in the face to those who fought in the wars, and their families.

Honestly, has our greediness finally outweighed our common human decency...?

So you don't mind sitting in the dark and cold as well then? or, no nurses. doctors, police, Fireservice?

Kip, I really don't think there is a comparison for essential services and comfort or convenience.
The essential services have always been a 24-7-365 provider.
Shopping stores, gas stations, restaurants, etc... aren't necesseties.
Us fat, lazy, and spoiled people can do well to miss a value meal on Sunday, or an adapter for the X-Box on Memorial day.
And besides (lightbulb smiley), think of the enviromental benefits!
Think of all the stores not using electricity...the restaurants not using gas....fewer cars burning gas on the roads...on and on.

It's always a choice to be open but you can be forgiven for thinking that it is against the employee's wishes to be there. We are closed on 25th Dec 1+2nd January and that's it.Eery year we have to draw lots for who is working on boxing day. Not to get folk but to limit the people who want to work. Certainly I do make sure they get decent tips and it is a short and hopefully fun) day but I am serious when I say that ore folk want to work it than I can justify taking in.
