Angry small and petty but it still pisses me off! WHY TOYS R US?!

Toys R Us Manager Says Store Will Be Open On Thanksgiving This Year
By Phil Villarreal, 10:49 AM on Fri Oct 9 2009, 6,695 views
Retail isn't a great field to be in if you enjoy having nights, weekends and holidays off. A disgruntled Toys R Us manager wrote us to say Thanksgiving, one of his three guaranteed holidays per year, will vanish in order to give the store a jump on its Black Friday competitors.

He writes:

I'm not sure if this is really pertinent to your website but I just feel like venting right now...
I am a manager with Toys R Us and have been with the company for 10 years. Today on our weekly national
conference call it was announced that we will be open on Thanksgiving Day. This may not come as a shock
to the average consumer, but to a retail worker who only typically has three guaranteed days off a year (Easter, Thanksgiving, and Xmas) this was disturbing. It was presented to the stores as capitalizing on a competitive advantage. This information is supposed to be highly confidential but I just feel like calling bullshit on these arrogant corporate assholes who will be enjoying Thanksgiving with their families whilst the true workers will be working and preparing for the busiest shopping day of the year. Also, we will be opening at midnight Thanksgiving Day to enjoy another competitive advantage.

Signed,
Soon to be former Toys "R" Us Kid

Well, as a resaurant grunt that doesn't have any "guaranteed' days off....WWWWAAAAHHHH!!!! Cry me a river!
This is probably one of those same assholes that will bring his family out to eat and expect a restaurant to be open to serve his lazy ass.
I just LOVE when people come in and say, "Oh, I can't believe you have to work today"
Well, bitch, if you weren't here I wouldn't HAVE to!!!

i agree... cracker barrel would do the same thing... they promised us short hours and even then i had to work ALL DAY...

i'm starting to agree with micheal moore on the capitalism thing... this is getting out of hand

thats all any holiday is anymore... just a day to capitalize... i'm trying to find a job where i don't have to work on a holiday because i'm gonna have to pull double duty this year... both my family and his have invited us to thanksgiving, and we're going to both...

after my kids grew up and moved out, I started volunteering to work the holidays to let those who still had little ones at home have the day off, sometimes tho, you just gotta say ... Family is MORE important!!!

we would have whole families come in to eat at cracker barrel. and then they would complain about the crowds. i remember i bent over backwards for this one family of thirty that came in... i told them very politely that if they needed more leg room they were more then welcome to the checkerboard tables near by as well...

the who i was talking to was appalled and asked me if i would like sitting by myself at thanksgiving...

i replied to him icily that i would be because i was working during my families thanksgiving and thanked him for the reminder that i would have to sit by myself eating leftovers tonight. and if he needed anything else his server would be glad to assist him... have a nice day...

JACKASS!!

it seems to me that it's always the workers that seem to suffer the most for holidays... even though we are supposed to be celebrating along with everyone else

Trust me, I would LOVE to go back to the days of everything being closed on Sunday and holidays.
Ya always made sure to get anything you needed early enough, or you borrowed from your neighbors

Chik-Fil-A

When we were on vaction in Pigeon Forge, there was one...and i hardly ever see them so we wanted to stop. It was a Sunday..
They had a gate across the parking lot entrance that said, basically, they were closed because "time with the Lord and family was more important than a dollar"
