Not impossible, but not as likely.

They keep the field mice {Which populate quickly} down to a minimum...and MICE are the ones who will enter homes and causes diseases.

Thank a WILD cat for your house not being over run by mice.

Take the critters out of the 'food chain' and like anything else removed...BIG troubles.

Instead...there should be a reduced rate or even a free rate to spay some, or nueter them.
In fact, feral cats have a life span of 2 years...so it's not like they live life long enough that they should not be replenished.

Incidently....many times ppl are to blame. Many ppl get sick of a pet...take them to a farm in the country and set them free.

I have cared for some who are outdoor cats....they eat what I give them besides maintaining the mice population.
BUT because they are so friendly, and just 'show up' it is obvious the ppl who threw them out who should be responsible.

The problems we have are not ferals...many have kittens, and few actually survive their first year. In a batch of four, one might live. And of that one who lives, they replace the older one who dies within about 2 years.

WE should also have a free rabies shot for these cats...

BUT taking down the population completely could be bad bad news.

Does anyone even realise the extensive diseases mice carry?? Compare that to cats.
