O.K. Let me tell you guys a true story. About a half a block away from me used to live an older man. He used to feed the stray cats in town(I live in a very small town) it started out as about 5 cats, this went on for a couple of years. This man passed away, when he passed away there were about 50 cats now(if not more) So there wasn't anyone to feed the strays anymore. So after about 2 weeks we had the awful looking skinney cats running around our neighborhood. My next door neighbor left his basement window open these cats scratched through the screen and tore up his house. My wifes new car got scratched to hell, yes insurance repainted it but it was no longer the same. People with pet cats couldn't let their own cats out because they would get all tore up. Cats howling and fighting all night long. So a bunch of guys trapped the cats took them out to the dump(no children around ) and shot them. Even cat lovers were all for this idea. That is the kind of cat hunting they are talking about not going out and shooting peoples pet cats. How it all got started was people just dumping their cats off in town because they are no longer wanted. People need to be more responsible and think through about a pet before getting one and not just dumping it off when they get sick of it. I hope I din't piss everybody off but that is my opinion and I am sticking to it.

I get asked to rid different buildings of feral cats, I have a cat trap, I place fish pieces on the trap door, when the cat enters the cage the trap door triggers the cage door and locks the cat inside the cage.
To kill the cat I immerse the cage in a barrel of water and drown it. Most often to get rid of the cat carcass we put it through the woodchipping machine and spread it on gardens. The nutrients make the flowers bloom. Cats are one of the best sourses of free fertiliser available.

They're also part of Chinese daily diet. Including cockroaches and rats.

I agree that drowning the brats in a barrel of water is the easiest way to quieten them. Kids also make excellent free fertiliser - even their shit is more nutritious for the plants than cat crap .... and you can sell their old clothes on eBay afterwards for more money than you would ever get for a tiny piece of cat fur. You're in the wrong business, Flynn !!

Simply stated - feral cats are a plus; NOT a minus and anyone who thinks to the contrary is not in possession of the facts.
The ONLY argument that I've ever heard that is logical (as opposed to emotional) is the rabies one. That does not hold water, since cats are far less likely to become rabid than such undomesticated species as skunks, weasels, foxes, bats, coyotes, raccoons, etc., not to mention domestic dogs that are permitted to run loose. No - cats are NOT immune to rabies - just less susceptible than many other animals. In fact, feral cats are far more likely to hold down populations of those animals which are more susceptible to the rabies virus. Feral cats do, indeed, prey on birds, along with squirrels, chipmunks (which also prey on birds and small animals), mice and other rodents. Why is that a problem? Nature abounds with predators and prey. Finally, what is it that make collars such a good idea? Seems to me that collars are simply a means to a long and horrible death for both dogs and cats who get hung up on barbed wire fences, limbs, and the like. I've seen it personally. Maybe we should also put diapers on dogs, cats, cows, and crows too (not to mention old farts like me). |
