I can think of a few reasons why making it legal is a bad idea.
1. Someone could get hurt 2. It could be someones pet whether the cat has a collar of not. Some people dont put collars on their outside cats because they can get snagged on fences and whatnot and if they are hunting, the jingling scares off the mice or whatever. 3. They may hunt birds in your yards, but thats what cats do.. they hunt. People dont shoot other people who go around killing critters. Plus think of the pests that they keep away from the house. 4. There are better ways of dealing with it. 5. All these people need is an excuse, soon we'll have a cat killing massacre of trigger-happy hill billies running around with guns. We already have that problem around here and legalizing it would only make it worse. 6. Because it promotes animal abuse! 7. It will lead to the legalization of other animals being killed off. 8. because it is mean and it hurts my feelings If cat hunting was ever legalized, just think of all the cat lovers out there that would throw a fit.. and I'd be right there with them! |

It is though! The idea of killing is an emotional subject to me, whether it be a human being or animal. What bothers me is how anyone could be so gung-ho about killing cats (or anything for that matter). It makes me think of all killing in general and how anyone could do it. I think it's disturbing, it really is. I am just a cat loving person. Each cat has their own personality, something that makes them special. I'm not talking about you Grandpa, I know you were probably joking about skinning and whatnot. |

Blown out of context!
None of the proponents are advocating hunting your pretty little kittys in the suburbs, shopping mall parking lots, or school playgrounds. This refers to FERAL (wild cats) that were abandoned by uncaring, irresponsible people who thought it was nasty to spay/neuter a pet or too cheap to do it. Those who would run up and down the streets, shooting pets out of the pick-up truck windows will do that regardless! And we aren't willing to keep the guns out of the hands of those people. (See Gun control thread). They aren't holding up banks, going postal and killing co-workers, etc. So you want them to be able to have the guns, but not shoot a cat. Second topic And as for some people who I put on ignore because they were femiNazi, just typing LOL doesn't make it funny. And "I'm glad you finally admit to putting me on ignore." is a ridiculous statement, as I have never denied doing that! " Must be a man thing...........gotta play with a big gun .....they don't have anything else big to play with.................. Did I say that out loud? And the "Did I say that out loud?", sounds like the drunk who excuses himself for stoooopid comments by saying. "I was drunk". Just an excuse in advance to say whatever she wanted to say, but knew it was inappropriate. And then she tops it with, "If we start eliminating nuisances, I know plenty of your own species that would be the first to go." Another man-hater statement, seems to me. I don't think any of the men like me because I disagree with them every now and then. Male mentality. Dont' think it's that at all! It's the insulting comments that go along with the disagreement! Like "male mentality". So, as Julie Andrews sang in "Sound of Music", So long, farewell, auf weiderschoen, adeu!" T

Wis. Governor Rejects Cat-Hunting Idea
BY RYAN J. FOLEY The Associated Press Updated: 1:48 p.m. ET April 13, 2005 A proposal to legalize the killing of feral cats is not going to succeed, Gov. Jim Doyle said Wednesday.
He told reporters his office had received calls from around the country denouncing a proposal adopted Monday at meetings of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, a public advisory group, that would classify wild, free-roaming cats as an unprotected species that kills song birds and other wildlife. Outdoor enthusiasts approved the proposal 6,830 to 5,201 at Monday's spring hearings of the group. The results get forwarded to the state Natural Resources Board for consideration, but any official action would have to be passed by the Legislature and signed by the governor. Animal rights groups belittled the idea as inhumane and dangerous. Doyle said he respects the Conservation Congress but "on this one I think everybody recognizes it's not going anywhere." Some experts estimate that 2 million wild cats roam Wisconsin, and the state says studies show feral cats kill 47 million to 139 million songbirds a year. South Dakota and Minnesota both allow wild cats to be shot. Two state senators _ Scott Fitzgerald and Neil Kedzie _ had promised to do everything they can to keep the plan from becoming law. Kedzie, who chairs the Natural Resources and Transportation Committee, called the issue "a distraction from the main tasks we have at hand." ___ |

Wisconsin's stray cats can breathe a sigh of relief
WJFW-TV RHINELANDER, Wis - Today the DNR said no matter how residents vote on the proposal, it won't legalize cat hunting in Wisconsin because there are too many problems associated with it.Rhinelander Animal Shelter manager Karen Hess agrees. She says many cats that appear to be homeless might not be. Stray cats that you see around possibly aren't strays, they may belong to somebody, says Hess. She adds it's also hard to tell the difference between stray and domestic cats because they tend to go back to their basic instincts when they are frightened. As she explains, when they come into the shelter, they're scared so you can't just look and tell if they're wild or not.You have to see how they act later on. This issue became a hot topic back in March when LaCrosse native Mark Smith asked the state to allow hunters to kill roaming cats. |

Well then lets hope that the people planning to go out shooting these feral cats can tell the difference between my pet kitties and the wild ones. (though I dont know if there is much difference in looks!) Actually I am not worried about my cats being killed at all. I dont believe in killing unless for food or to save your life. |

Mickey Mouse is cute too, but ask a resident of a ghetto how much they love rats.
WELL,YA KNOW I HATE RATS!..AND DONT HAVE THEM AROUND..BUT THE RAT HAS BEEN FOR DECADES...AND TO ALL THE WORLDS APPROACHES CANT KILL THEM OFF..NOW IN EVERY PET STORE NATION WIDE THEY SELL RATS,FOR LAB USES,TO FEED LARGE SNAKES,AND JUST FOR PETS..DAUGHTER HAS 2 WITE MICE(YUK)...BUT AGAIN,WE ARE A SLOPPY NATION WE GIVE THE RATS A CHANCE TO FEED AND FEED WELL..WE WASTE MORE FOOD THEN SOME OF THE WORLD HAS NEVER SEEN!..NOW..THINK ABOUT IT..WHY ARENT THERE ALOT OF RATS IN THE WILD?..NOT AS MANY AS THOSE IN POPULATION..WHY CAUSE WE FEED THEM,THEY ARE GOOD FOOD HUNTERS....AND WE TOSS IT IN ALYS,GARBAGE CANS,DUMPS..WE SUPPLY A PLACE FOR THEM TO BREED,AND SERVIVE..AGAIN ITS BACK TO US! The world made Mickey Mouse a Star and let's not forget Stewart Little... Sorry Kid if it gets in my home & the cat don't catch it >the trap will. Quote:
