The bill features Queen Elizabeth II, who is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee this year, on the front of the note. The back pays tribute to the sacrifices of Canadian men and women in military conflicts with an image of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. (Watch the Bank of Canada's video introducing the new bill and the significance of Vimy here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqpNNC1iEUY&list=UUY4EvEbIox0M4JuEsu5OKnQ&index=2&feature=plpp_video.).)
However, some people have called elements of the bill "pornographic," while others have noted a resemblance to the Twin Towers that used to stand in lower Manhattan.
The main reason for issuing a new $20 is to prevent counterfeiting threats, said the bank. The new polymer notes are also cheaper and have a smaller environmental footprint. (An image of the back of the $20 note is below.)

*Images of 9/11?*
The bank hired a research firm to hold focus groups with Canadians to get their opinion on the new currency. They found that not only did most Canadians not know of the Vimy Memorial's existence, but that some of those surveyed said the monument reminded them of New York's World Trade Center that was attacked and destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001, according to an internal report cited in a CTV article (http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/TopStories/20120506/twenty-dollar-bill-120506/).
The memorial, in Vimy, France, commemorates the Battle of Vimy Ridge and honors those who fought and died in the WWI in France and have no known grave. One focus group respondent was critical of the banknote's war imagery given the "climate domestically and around the world" -- as well as Canada's reputation as a peacekeeper. Perhaps a symbol of peace would be better, the participant suggested, according to the report.
This isn't the first time a new product or campaign called to mind the Twin Towers. Earlier this year, the poster for season 5 of "Mad Men," (http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/trending-now/mad-men-falling-man-billboards-incite-9-11-172450988.html) which showed a single figure tumbling as if through the air against a stark white background, evoked for some the gruesome images of Sept. 11 victims jumping to their deaths. And last December, a Dutch architecture firm got flack for its design of apartment towers in South Korea, named "The Cloud" (http://www.fastcodesign.com/1665602/do-these-skyscrapers-remind-you-of-the-911-attacks-mvrdv-responds) that many thought were reminiscent of the World Trade Center buildings exploding.
*Naked Women*
The part of the memorial apparently causing some Canadians to blush is a depiction of some of the most senior figures, a group of women — sans clothes — known as the chorus. One person said the naked woman is going to "offend someone." Here's a close-up of the provocative image, depicting the Vimy figures:

Julie Girard, a spokeswoman for the Bank of Canada's currency department, said a lot of time and thought went into all the banknotes' makeover. Additionally, she pointed out that the monument was unveiled in 1936. What's more, the bank conducted focus groups near the beginning of the five-year redesign process, asking the Canadian public what they wanted to see on their new currency. They "gave us the idea for Vimy," Girard says.

Our neighbors to the north just introduced a new $20 bill in Ottawa, and the redesign has garnered a bit of controversy.
The bill features Queen Elizabeth II, who is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee this year, on the front of the note. And what I believe is: Sure why not give it back to them let them take care of the up keep. Just sounds to me that the U.S. owes China up the butthole and some Government official thought they could save some moneys to start paying back China or give themselves another raise.

I have friends on both sides of the handgun issue, those who believe easy access to hand guns is not good for this country and those who believe government has no business dictating ownership one way or the other.

I have gained valuable understanding from both arguments. I have made my final decision.

Certain Americans, especially those who are more likely to become victims of crime, need to own and become proficient with handguns!

I can't discuss it further right now. It's my turn to pick up the shells.

Personally should go through a more harder way to buy one and before they are sold one they have to show the seller a certificate that they know how to use it. (That is why I want to start a gun club, shhhhhh...) but WTF all criminals will always have guns.

(This should keep you chuckling for awhile)

A bar called Drummond's (in Mt Vernon, Texas ) began construction on an expansion of their building, hoping to "grow" their business.

In response, the local Southern Baptist Church started a campaign to block the bar from expanding - petitions, prayers, etc.

About a week before the bar's grand re-opening, a bolt of lightning struck the bar and burned it to the ground!

Afterward, the church folks were rather smug - bragging about "the power of prayer".

The angry bar owner eventually sued the church on grounds that the church... "Was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, through direct actions or indirect means."

Of course, the church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the building's demise.

The judge read carefully through the plaintiff's complaint and the defendant's reply.

He then opened the hearing by saying:

"I don't know how I'm going to decide this, but it appears from the paperwork that what we have here is a bar owner who now believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that does not."

Native American Indians.

Were those
Muslims that celebrated the first Thanksgiving
day? Sorry again, those were Pilgrims and
Native American Indians.

Can you
show me one Muslim signature on the United
States Constitution?

Declaration
of Independence ?

Bill of
Rights?

Didn't
think so.

Did
Muslims fight for this country's freedom from
England ? No.

Did
Muslims fight during the Civil War to free the
slaves in America ? No, they did
not. In fact, Muslims to this day are
still the largest traffickers in human
slavery.. Your own half-brother, a devout
Muslim, still advocates slavery himself, even
though Muslims of Arabic descent refer to black
Muslims as "pug nosed slaves." Says a lot
of what the Muslim world really thinks of your
family's "rich Islamic heritage," doesn't it Mr.
Obama?

Where were
Muslims during the Civil Rights era of this
country? Not present.

There are
no pictures or media accounts of Muslims walking
side by side with Martin Luther King, Jr. or
helping to advance the cause of Civil
Rights.

Where were
Muslims during this country's Woman's Suffrage
era? Again, not present. In fact,
devout Muslims demand that women are subservient
to men in the Islamic culture. So much so,
that often they are beaten for not wearing the
'hajib' or for talking to a man who is not a
direct family member or their husband.
Yep, the Muslims are all for women's rights,
aren't they?

Where were
Muslims during World War II? They were
aligned with Adolf Hitler. The Muslim
grand mufti himself met with Adolf Hitler,
reviewed the troops and accepted support from
the Nazi's in killing Jews.

Finally,
Mr. Obama, where were Muslims on Sept. 11th,
2001? If they weren't flying planes into
the World Trade Center , the Pentagon or a field
in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people on
our own soil, they were rejoicing in the Middle
East . No one can dispute the pictures
shown from all parts of the Muslim world
celebrating on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and other
cable news networks that day. Strangely,
the very "moderate" Muslims who's asses you bent
over backwards to kiss in Cairo , Egypt on June
4th were stone cold silent post 9-11. To
many Americans, their silence has meant approval
for the acts of that day.

And THAT, Mr.
Obama, is the "rich heritage" Muslims have here
in America .

Oh, I'm sorry, I
forgot to mention the Barbary Pirates.
They were Muslim.

And now we can
add November 5, 2009 - the slaughter of American
soldiers at Fort Hood by a Muslim major who is a
doctor and a psychiatrist who was supposed to be
counseling soldiers returning from battle in
Iraq and Afghanistan .

That, Mr. Obama
is the "Muslim heritage" in America
.

Following a weekend that saw yet another high-profile match influenced by a refereeing mistake, international governing body FIFA will push ahead with plans to test and then introduce new technology that uses missile-grade precision sensors or a magnetic field to assist the officials.
Suitable methods have been available to FIFA for more than a decade, but until now the game's chief rules-makers have firmly shunned attempts to update the sport's means of resolving disputes.Image: http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/m__e6W7KXjjfOkEwMTvWqA--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTE5MA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/News/Reuters/2012-04-15T183204Z_01_WEM24_RTRIDSP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-CUP.jpg Tottenham players confront referee Martin Atkinson (R). (Reuters)
However, pressure from the international media, fans, players, coaches and administrators has caused soccer's hierarchy to cave in at last, a process helped by abysmal errors such as the one seen in Sunday's English FA Cup semifinal between Chelsea and Tottenham. Chelsea comfortably won the game 5-1, but its second goal should not have stood, as Juan Mata's goal-bound effort was stopped by the Tottenham defense a foot short of the line.
FIFA will conduct extensive tests on two systems under consideration. The first, widely considered the favorite, is the Hawk-Eye product used in professional tennis and international cricket. Hawk-Eye, now owned by Sony, uses a series of high-tech cameras to track the ball at every stage of its flight. It can determine whether the ball has crossed the line thanks to the same processes its inventor, Dr. Paul Hawkins, once used to develop programs designed to assist in complex brain surgeries and missile flight patterns.
It faces stern competition, though, from a Danish company called GoalRef that relies on a magnetic field to achieve the same result and also boasts exceptional accuracy.
A broad and lower-level initial testing process narrowed the field to Hawk-Eye and GoalRef earlier this year, although at that point any shift in the laws of soccer was unlikely.
"The second phase of tests will commence before the end of April," read a FIFA statement this week. "[It] will continue throughout May."

And what constitutes a goal? Is it a millimeter of ball crossing a razor thin plane at the goal mouth, or the entire ball through the post? Either definition could be handled by this new technology.

If God didn't intend for man to eat animals, they would all have been buzzards and cockroaches.

“Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter-faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn.

To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, demi-glace, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living.

Vegetarians are the enemy of everything good and decent in the human spirit, an affront to all I stand for, the pure enjoyment of food. The body, these waterheads imagine, is a temple that should not be polluted by animal protein. It's healthier, they insist, though every vegetarian waiter I've worked with is brought down by any rumor of a cold.

Oh, I'll accomodate them, I'll rummage around for something to feed them, for a 'vegetarian plate', if called on to do so. Fourteen dollars for a few slices of grilled eggplant and zucchini suits my food cost fine.”

In the short span of a decade it has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry and the most common cosmetic procedure in the world. Indeed, it has become "part of the culture": it is credited with reinventing old age (and the advent of "the new new face (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/04/plastic-surgery-meet-the_n_116677.html)"), threatening our health (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/botox/MY00078/DSECTION=risks), and even hindering our capacity to feel and express emotion (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/19/fashion/botox-reduces-the-ability-to-empathize-study-says.html).
In 2005, four hundred thirty six "serious adverse event" reports related to Botox had been reported to Allergan, the manufacturer of Botox. Two hundred one of these cases were possibly or probably due to remote spread of the toxin, including 42 cases reported after wrinkle injections. Also in 2005, Allergan had reported to the FDA that they had identified 38 patients -- 20 children, most of them with cerebral palsy, and 18 adults -- who had suffered seizures after Botox injections.
During May 2007, European regulators requested that Allergan and two other toxin competitors add information to their product labels and to warn doctors that the toxin could spread, causing botulism like symptoms (dry mouth, difficulty swallowing, blurred or double vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech and progressive muscle weakness). In July of that same year a confidential report made to Allergan by a consulting firm showed 207 patients had developed medical problems associated with the spread of toxin, including several deaths. A third of the cases reported occurred in people treated for wrinkles. The rest were treated for muscle spasms, muscle spasticity and eye problems. Proportionately more problems were reported amongst children who had received Botox.

I know "they" say it's safe, but why would any sane person want to intentionally inject botulism toxin (A severe, sometimes fatal food poisoning caused by ingestion of food containing botulin and characterized by nausea, vomiting, disturbed vision, muscular weakness, and fatigue) into the skin right next to the brain?
