It was on a snagg place that I found.
I downloaded the set of them.

This tutorial is how to use the SLATS.

Its this plank sort of effect,heres where someone else has used one.



I can give you a site where there are 18 different slats.

You need to scroll down to the bottom of the page.
You'll find a yellow draws icon..click on that to download.



It's the same way but instead of being downloaded into the Picture tube section
the Slats have to be downloaded into the IMAGE section.
What I've done is clicked on the IMAGE folder then clicked on New folder.
I named it SLATS and downloaded them all into there.

Now they're downloaded we'll start the tutorial.

1.You need to open the folder by clicking on the yellow folder in the top left hand corner.
Then find the place where you put the slats into.
Mine says SLATS because I made that new folder for them to go into.
Yours might be in IMAGES,no problem,I just made the folder for convenience.



2.When you click on the slats in the folder it'll open them up.
Just choose the one that you want to use,and close any you dont.
You just need to choose the one slat.

3.Once you have the one you want to use goto SELECTIONS..SELECT ALL.
Then goto SELECTIONS..FLOAT.
Then goto SELECTIONS..DEFLOAT
That's not a missprint LOLSounds strange to float then defloat but it works.

It should now look something like this.



4.You can now click in the FOREGROUND and STROKE PROPERTIES paintbox.
Select GRADIENT,Then have the STYLE set as the last one..RADIAL.
Then choose your GRADIENT from the drop down.
I'm choosing the soft pink.



5.Now select the FLOOD FILL TOOL,it's the one above the move tool.
Then fill up all the slats with your Gradient.
It now should something look like this.



6.Now open the picture that youre going to use on your signature.
Then goto EDIT..COPY
Then minimise the picture.

7.Now Back to the SLAT, goto LAYER..NEW RASTER LAYER.
Then click OK.
Then goto EDIT..PASTE..PASTE INTO SELECTION.
Then goto SELECTIONS..SELECT NONE.
Then goto LAYERS..MERGE..MERGE VISIBLE.

It should now look something like this.



8.I'm now going to add a DROP SHADOW.
It's up to you if you want to do that too or not.
To do that goto EFFECTS..3D EFFECTS..DROP SHADOW.
At the top of the drop shadow box is a curved arrow.
Along from where it says PRESETS.
If you click that it will give you the defaults settings.
Thats the ones I'm accepting.



This is my picture so far



Mine looked smaller than I wanted so I went to IMAGE..RESIZE,Making sure resize all layers was ticked.

9.Now is time to add the TEXT.
Select the colours for your FOREGROUND STROKE and BACKGROUND FILL.
I'm using metalic gold gradient for my Background fill.
Choose your TEXT and SIZE and create as FLOATING.
I'm using size 36.

10.Add your text to the picture.
Then goto SELECTIONS..SELECT NONE
Then goto EDIT..COPY

11.Now open up the ANIMATION SHOP
goto EDIT..PASTE..AS NEW ANIMATION
It might have the transparent squares on the pic.
Mine does,dont worry,they wont show in the saved gif.
Mine now looks like this in ANIMATION SHOP.

I think there is too much black in a couple of areas. hmmm

This one looks better. I saved it in PSP and made it transparent in Gifworks. For some reason when I saved the other in Animation shop, it put in those black spaces. LOL

With this tutorial you can make your signature picture using Slats that you make for yourself.

1.Open up a new transparent image 400x 400
Set the FOREGROUND and STROKE PROPERTIES as TRANSPARENT and the BACKGROUND and FILL PROPERTIES as WHITE.

2.Goto the SHAPES TOOL,It's the one under the Text tool.
Use the down arrow and select RECTANGLE.





3.Now make the first slat on the transparent paper.
The slats can go from left to right or top to bottom
it's all up to you.

4.Once you've made your first slat go to SELECTIONS..SELECT ALL,
Then goto SELECTIONS..FLOAT.
This'll make the Slat selected.

5.Now click the flood fill tool,then in FOREGROUND AND STROKE PROPERTIES .
Choose your colour or gradient or pattern and then tick and choose a texture
Make the Texture settings SCALE 100,and the ANGLE as 0.
Then use the left click to fill in the Slat.
It should now look something like this.



6.Now goto EFFECTS.. 3D EFFECTS...Inner Bevel
And make these the settings.



7.Now goto EDIT..COPY,Then EDIT..PASTE..AS NEW LAYER.
Then use the move tool to move the new slat alongside the first one,with a small gap and starting further up or down than the first one.
Then goto EDIT..REPEAT PASTE NEW LAYER,and move the slat into posistion.
Keep doing that till you have enough slats.
It should now look something like this....



When you have enough slats goto SELECTIONS..DEFLOAT.
Then goto selections..SELECT NONE,Then goto
LAYERS..MERGE..MERGE VISIBLE.

8.Now it's MERGED VISIBLE You can turn it into a picture tube.
Then whenever you want to use that slat you can get it from the picture tubes.
This is how you make your own slats.

To turn your slat into a picture tube goto FILE..EXPORT..PICTURE TUBE.
NAME YOUR SLAT Then click OK.
Your Slat will now be a picture tube for you to use over and over again.

9.Now goto EFFECTS..3D EFFECT..DROP SHADOW.
Click the curved arrow thats just above the right hand preview.
This will set the default settings for the drop shadow,then click OK.

10.Goto LAYERS..NEW RASTER LAYER.
Now goto the PICTURE TUBE TOOL,and choose the picture tube for your signature picture.
Place the picture tube onto the Slats,and use the MOVE TOOL to place the picture tube,leaving room for the name and any other text that you might want to add.
Then goto EFFECTS..3D EFFECTS..DROP SHADOW,Then click OK.
Then goto LAYERS..MERGE..MERGE VISIBLE.
This is my signature picture so far.



11.Now you need to add the text.
Once you add your text you can give an inner or outer bevel.
Or a drop shadow,maybe sparkles,whatever you wish to make the sig to your individual style Once finished goto EDIT..COPY
Then open up the ANIMATION SHOP,Goto EDIT..PASTE AS A NEW ANIMATION.
Then save the picture

Thank you, Essex. I made another error on the first one. When i did the perspective shadow I forgot to click the check mark to apply it.. LOL

Hi ! I just downloaded PaintShopPro7 and Animation Shop 3 last week and so I've been trying to do the sparkles/glitter which was one of your first lessons in this thread. (Bear with me people I'm new lol) I know you guys are probably on tutorial lesson # 4844 and I'm still on tutorial lesson # 1. Anyway, I just had a quick question about the sparkles/glitter that I have downloaded from this site and other various websites on the internet. I can't get them to upload in the picture tube. They are all unzipped from the zipped files and in the right file called "Tube" however I think there might be a problem as some of the ones I had downloaded were showing up a couple days ago and today they have disappeared. Does anyone know how to work that out? By the way my first glitter picture is in my sig now. Not that hot I know but it took me 3 times to get it right. LOL I will try not to interrupt your advanced lessons with my beginner questions anymore but I can't get this worked out. Thanks!
