I too have been reading through this thread with interest ~ as a pro photographer all my life, I have always retained 'copyright' of a shot, unless in certain circumstances, you 'sell' the copyright, and of course receive more money for it.

Now this picture I'm working on as a 'gift' type poster for the chap you looks after my car shows a problem, the overall picture of the car he's rebuilding was taken by me [so I have copyright] but the model I put on the car was taken by someone else [I know not who] and unless they sold the copyright, it remains with them.

I'm not making any money out of it ~ it just for fun, as has been said here about work done by members of the Roo ~ but this is an example of 'two copyrights' if you look at it that way.
