Welcome to Jokaroo ! I have tried to create an easy, helpfull walkthrough to get you set up with everything you see us senior members have. Such as: Avitars (little pictures on the right) Pictures (both in your signature area and in your posts) And a few other little hints to help you along. I have also added helpfull pictures to show you certain steps for each section. To look at the picture simply click on it and you will see the full size image. Feel free to send me a personal message if you run into trouble with any part of this walkthrough. And once again welcome. First one you can personalise is "profile". This section is pretty self explanitory so i'm not going to tell you about this one. Just put in any info you wish the other users to know about you. Second one is "signature". This section is one of the few that everyone has questions about. What ever you put in this area will be included in your posts and replies just under your text. This section can contain images and text. Take a look at the folloowing picture and you will see what my signature looks like. I know it looks confusing, but after i explain everything you will understand. ![]() We'll start with the first line [img] http://images.jokaroo.com/1/ES1.gif....etc. This line is for putting a picture in your signature. Notice the [img] at the front of the address (http://) this tells roo, the address following is a picture. At the end of the address you must always remember to place the [/img] command after the address. This tells roo, that this is the end of the address. For learning reasons i had to put spaces between [img] and the http:// part. Otherwise you would ony see a picture. With me so far? The next line you see [font=Century Gothic][b][size=2][color=Lime]Why do today what...etc. If you look just above the gray text box you will notice : font tab, Size, Color, under that is the buttons for Bold (B), Italic (I), and Underline (U).The next three are for adjusting where on the page you want the text. From left to right they are, Aling to the right, Center every line, and align to the right. The next two, I personaly never use but the first is for putting in an indentation, and the second is for creating a list. The next two you will use more often. (1) A small box with a picture of a mountain in it. This is the box that you use for inserting pictures. When clicked it adds "[img]" into the text screen. (2) The second picture is a planet. This one is for adding web links into your post. When you click this button a little box opens up and you can give your link a name, such as: Click me, or Best link ever. Then you click ok, and the second box opens in it's place. This is where you would type the address would be placed, but remember you must include http:// part or the link wont work. To better explain see the next two pictures. Moving on... The next two buttons, i honestly have no idea what they do, nor have i ever needed them. But the next one is helpfull. The Quote tag (looks like a cartoon text box). This is for when you want to quote something that someone else said. Mainly used when replying to posts. There is also an easier way to quote someone. To do this simply press the "reply" button on the bottom right corner of the person you want to quote's text box. Next is the two buttons with x's in them. The bottom one is the easiest to get use to useing. This button is called "close all tags". If you want to have large text, in red, and italic... you would go to the font tab, select the type you want, go to the color button, select red, and then the size button, select a number. You will end up with something like this... "[font=Century Gothic][size=5][color=red]" now all you have to do is type in your text. "Hi", "Welcome" etc. Clicking the close all tags button will Place the following after your text. "[/foont][/COOLOR][/SIIZE]" Again, i had to add the extra O's and I's to alow you to see the code, but you get what i'm saying. Take a look at the Signature picture again and lets see if it's looking a bit easier. Next section we have the Avitar. This is the little picture on the left of your post. It can be anything: from your pc or from the web. If your picture is already on a web page then simply open up the web page, right click on the picture, click properties. Copy the address from the window that pops up, then simply paste it into the web part. If your Picture is on your pc then you simply click the browse button and find it on your PC. Keep in mind the picture you use as your Avitar can only be 110X110 in size. This can be checked by right clicking on the image in your pc and clicking properties. It will be listed as Dimentions. If it is too large Try using MS Paint to shrink it down till it fits. If you don't have a picture there are a list you can choose from that Jokaroo offers. This would be a good time to get into Images. Most everyone has pictures on there pc that they want to put on Jokaroo. This is how it's done. First we start by clicking on the words "image uploader" at the top of the screen, just under the banner. See picture. The next few images will show you what happens when you click it. **** Right now the image uploader is experianceing Trouble **** When you get to the final screen that tells you click the link to view your picture, STOP ! instead of left click, use your right mouse button. A menu appears Click the copy shortcut, and past it into your post or signature. Don't forget to place these in front and at the end of the url... [img] & [/img].. remember how it looked in the signature area? This methood is also used for your signature pictures. The next one is your Options section. This is also pretty self explanitory. Check the picture to see how i set mine up. There is one thing i will say about this section you may question in the future. The time setting. For some reason, choosing your timezone will give you the wrong time. The only way to fix this is to change it over and over till your time matches. There realy is no easy way to correct this. It is a Jokaroo problem. The rest are all straight forward and will be happy to help you with if you need, just PM me. If i think of more i will add it here. One more thing, it has been brought to my attention that some are having trouble replying to posts all together. I could be mistaken but only registered users are the only ones allowed to reply now. If you want to reply there is a quick reply box at the bottom of the page you are reading, or simply click the add reply button right above the box. just have fun, As jokaroo has no test forum, just use this to test your skills. And please before you post, please take the time to search the forum to see if it has been posted before. Enjoy. Welcome to the roo ! Last edited by eclipse_storm; 04-11-2004 at 01:03 AM. |

Eclipse thank you for all the helpful information. I am an old roo'er but since some of it changed, I wasn't sure how to use it and I do appreciate you post.
The only thing I am wondering about for the time being anyway, is how to do the reputation thing. Would you mind please explaining this to me? I would be ever so grateful. I have tried doing it but every time I click on someone's reputation box, it keeps telling me that first I must spread reputation and I don't understand how I am supposed to spread it if I never get the opportunity to put any in. I'm sure it's probably simple but at this point it isn't for me. Thank you.
