OK Here is the HELP I promised.
I have made it simple for those that are not overly familiar with their computers. The easiest way that we have found to add pics to posts or creating threads or anything at all on the Roo is to first change a simple setting in your edit options for the Roo. How to change the setting: 1. About 6 inches from the top of your screen there is a blue line that runs from left to right. (You will find this line to be very helpful) On this line there is "Quick links"....click on this and a drop down screen appears. Click on 'Edit Options' 2. On the page that opens, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see the following: Miscellaneous Options Message Editor Interface When postings messages to the forums or other members, there are three interface types available to you. The simplest of these is a simple text box, while the last is a fully-fledged WYSIWYG editor, which allows you to format your text as you want it and see the results immediately. Depending upon the capabilities of your web browser, you may not be able to use all of these options. If you experience problems when posting messages, try switching to a different interface type Message Editor Interface: Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing . 3. Make sure that the message editor interface is set the same as is shown above "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing".....if not then click the arrow, then click on the option shown above. 4. Now click "SAVE CHANGES" Thanks to Swordfish, I finally realised what WYSIWYG stands for, it means 'What You See Is What You Get'. We have found this to be the simplest way of doing any posts. What this setting does is allows you to see your post exactly how it is going to display as you are creating it. If you have any trouble with this or your browser does not allow this type of setting then please post in this thread and I will show you another way. Next.....To Upload A Picture And Post It: 1. Firstly .....If you are going to create a new thread you need to click on 'New Thread' which is on the forum pages on the left hand side of your page just under that blue line. If you are wanting to add a picture in a reply to someone elses thread then click on 'Reply' which will be in that same position, you can also reply by scrolling to the bottom of the post and clicking 'go advanced', or if you want to quote someone as well as adding a picture then click 'quote' in the persons post on the bottom right hand corner. 2. Now that you have that organised, we can start to upload a picture from your computer. On that Blue line you will see 'Image Uploader', click on it and it will open a new window, Terms and Conditions will appear, read these then at the bottom of that page click the 'Agree' button. 3. An 'upload file' screen will appear. This is where you will upload your picture from your computer so you can use it on your posts. Click on the 'Browse' button, this will open up your files on your computer so you can chose your picture to upload. (it only opens the files to you....no-one else). Find the picture you are looking for and click it, then click open (or double click on it will do the same thing). You should now be back at the 'upload file' screen and there should be writing in the line there now. Now click 'Upload'....your picture is now becoming a URL link on J-roo....this may take a few seconds, it depends on the size of the picture. The next screen to appear should be 'Upload File' and say 'File was Uploaded' and 'click here to view the image uploaded' Most of the time your image should be showing on this screen. NOTE: If the 'File was uploaded' screen shows a picture other than the one you tried to upload, then click the 'back' button on your browser and go and rename your picture to something unique (this can be as simple as adding a letter or a number to the pictures name) now go and upload your renamed picture. This happens because so many members use the uploader, and there are bound to be pictures named the same thing floating around in cyberspace in the roo uploader. 4. To post the image you have uploaded, all you have to do is 'right click' on the image and then click copy......now go back to your page with your reply to post message box. Right click in the message box and paste. Your picture should now be in the message box. 5. You can now complete your post. If you want to change your font style or colour in the message box, just highlight your text (by clicking and dragging your mouse across the text), then just above the message box is your toolbar for making these changes.....now have a play and change the things you want, you must highlight any areas that you want to make the changes to before you click the changes you want. 6. Now you must remember to click on 'SUBMIT REPLY' or you can 'preview post' first(which you don't really need to do with the setting that we changed earlier) 7. There you have it......you should now have successfully added your picture to the post. If you have any problems with any of the above steps, or if your browser does not allow any of the above, then please post in this thread and I will help you as best I can. Happy Posting Dee Last edited by CJnDee; 10-18-2004 at 09:25 PM. |

Great post! I have been using the enhanced settings since I started, the directions using the mountain thing were way too confusing and playing around one day I found that! The only thing I can add is I set my font settings before I type, it saves a bit of a step.
Way to help out the fellow ROOers! |

Great Post Dee!!!
When I first joined here.... there was no help threads. And with the kindness and patience of about 4 different Roo members.... I finally caught on to how to do this stuff on here. And the last one that helped me had me change my settings to "Enhanced Interface - WYSIWYG editing" and from then on I had no trouble. I learned this way and have always used this way. I have used the other method and this is SOOOO much easier! I would like to ask your permission to use this help link in my sig. instead of the one I have! I will pm it to you for approval first before I use it!

ATTENTION ALL NEWBIES!!!!!
A problem has been solved!!!! A lot of the newbies have been having trouble putting pics into posts, editing posts, fixing their avatars and signature pictures. The problem seems to be that you have not verified your membership with Jokaroo. When you first register with Jokaroo you will have received a VERIFICATION email..... when you receive this you must click on the link enclosed in it and complete all the fields that J-roo asks. Once this is done, you will have ALL privileges. How I worked this out is I subscribed as a new member with a different email that I have. I tried to complete my sig and avatar before I got the verification email. This did not work.....only limited me to putting j-roo avatar in and not my own. Once I went back and verified my membership....all worked fine. I have put an altered copy of the verification email below. IF YOU HAVE LOST YOUR VERIFICATION EMAIL..... there is a link below to go to....all you will need is your username for j-roo SUBJECT: Action Required to Activate Membership for Jokaroo's Forum!
