Every time I come in here I am totally in awe at the beauty in photography and your country. I had so many time in my Air Force career to get to Europe but never got an assignment close. My father came from Ireland and I had always wanted to visit that country not knowing what area he came from.

As always I come and scroll through your works of art and I just sit back and feel so relaxed.

Yes, they usually do. It's Grock, the cob, who comes first so I assume that was Grack. I think she may be short sighted and couldn't tell it was me.

It relaxes me too. I am so very lucky to live where I do and take every chance I have to get out and enjoy it.

When I left home at 7:30 am there was 100% cloud cover. By the time I reached Brutus Bridge it was clearing nicely...

Lucky you! We had a blizzard all morning. Not more than 5 cm, but the visibility was poor as the wind was howling! It's cold, -12 C. The weather is supposed to improve in the next few days, but things change fast around here...

Is that a duck I see in the picture?

That's a little grebe, known colloquially as a dabchick. They're difficult to photograph as they keep diving under water to fish then pop up for air in a different place. Their scientific name is very descriptive, tachybaptus ruficollis: fast sinking redneck.

I'm waiting in for a delivery this morning but earlier I took a short walk to Queen's Meadow to see how far the students of Plymouth University have got with building a bird hide.

It's another gorgeous but cold morning. Buckham's Park Copse is showing a wonderful array of seasonal colour.

It was only a short walk (I didn't know what time my package would arrive) and I returned home using a route I rarely travel, which gave me an opportunity to take this picture of not only Totnes Castle but where I live. The house in the foreground, below and to the right of the castle is home; my bedroom is the window with the closed white blind.

A bird hide is a place to watch and photograph birds without disturbing them while keeping out of the wind and rain.

Interesting. What kind of birds would hide in there and who are the predators?
