Toi-Toi-Toi, Break is leg, is not appropriate right now is it?

In that case.....good luck, all the best and get back as soon as possible...
And whatever you do......do not go into discussion with the nurses......because they are the ones who are holding the very long and sharp needles.

Thank you all for your kind wishes.

I am all packed and ready to go, including having my wheelchair in the back of the car just in case I need it coming home (it's quite a long walk from the ward to the door, and another long walk from the door to the car park - they are rebuilding the main entrance).

First I am going to my regular Monday morning COPD Rehab exercise class run by physiotherapists. That is a circuit of ten exercises for upper body and legs, which proved to be just what I needed to get me fit after my last similar operation. I do now have my own pair of 3 kg dunmb-bells that I will be taking into the hospital with me, so I can continue the exercise program while I am there, though some of them may be too difficult right after the surgery. No doubt the physiotherapist who will assess me on Wednesday morning will be telling me which I should attempt.

I hope to post more on Friday evening.

I WILL be talking to you before Friday (God willing) and if you wish, I can pop in here to let folks know how busy you are chasing the nurses.

Thank you. I probably will be chasing them in my mind - if they are the same team from last time there are several really nice ones! - but I suspect that actually making it to the bathroom will be all the activity I will manage.

The best laid plans of mice and men ...

Yesterday afternoon my surgeon used a portable scanner to examine my legs and write all sorts of hieroglyphics on them in magic marker, to remind himself what he intends to do to me while I am under anaesththetic. About five past eight this morning (fifteen minutes after the anaesthetisit had checked with me that he knew enough of my medical history and described what he would be doing) my surgeon came to see me to say that he was sorry, but he had another patient whose need was greater than mine, so he would be dealt with first. There weren't enough hours in the day to do me as well, so he was going to have to send me home.

An hour after that, another of the surgeons, in charge of this morning's "rounds", also apologised, and told me that he understood 'my' guy thought he would be able to mage my procedure next Tuesday. When I saw the breakfast trolley, I was able to get a senior nurse to remove the "nil by mouth" sign from my bed, so I did get to eat breakfast.

It took several more hours to get someone to sign the paperwork to say that my surgery had been postponed due to "unforeseen circumstances, nothing to do with myself", but I had just got home in time to get a phone call from the admin people to say they have now booked me in for the procedure in TWO week's time.

I hope I won't have a similar problem then, but I do admit my need today wasn't actually "urgent".

Geesh Geoff.....when I said "get back on here as soon as you can" I did not mean THIS soon.
Welcome back for now......okay, we did not even get the chance to miss you but the thought is still the same.

I was lucky: I was warned of the possibility of cancellations on all my operations but rather than suffer delays I twice benefited from them. I hope you don't get delayed again Geoff, it must be frustrating even though you are not an "urgent" case.

I am just about to shut down my computer, to go in for another attempt. I have just received a call from one of the Sisters asking me to arrive promptly - my surgeon wants to see me at the time I was booked to go in. I reassured her that my plans included being there 20 minutes early.

I have no worries about the surgery, but if you want to pray, please make that for it actually HAPPENING tomorrow. It seems it will, with my surgeon being keen to see me.

Praying, hoping, fingers and toes, and anything else that is necessary, crossed....
    But you don't need it.
Now just get it done and behind you........so that we can bug and bother you as soon as possible again.
