You're right, Vinnie. It's also active discrimination. Saying every "person" should have their say is an anomaly in this system.

    how is it active discrimination?

every eligible voter in every state gets a vote, then the electoral votes according to the popular vote for their respective state

I went and looked up "active discrimination"

Deliberate state policies limiting a people’s access to political positions or economic opportunities, or pervasive social practice by dominant groups.

as each state sets these things up for themselves, it's irrelevant to the electoral college

In a democracy it's active discrimination; making the state more important than it's country. It's also detrimental when an area votes a certain way just because it always has.

but that IS the whole premise for the United States of America, we don't want the government to have more power than the states

the states ARE more important, the government is just a tool for the states to use ... but I don't get how that's discrimination, who is being discriminated against?

and I'm pretty sure a lot of blue counties went red this election cycle, so that chain has already been broken, the voting as folks always have

You want the states to be more important than the country, and the people. The country can only represent the actual "people" on a popular vote, not by putting them in fishbowls and calling them states, and NOT by making it a choice. Not only is it not respresenting the people, it's lazy. In Australia it's against the law not to vote, so we will never end up with someone as sexist, racist and rude like Trump. Basic manners tells us that.

but we do have the popular vote ... it's done by state, the electoral votes according to the popular vote of each state
to say that the people in New York City and Los Angeles should have the power to decide who runs our country discriminates against the Okie in a one red light town

we could do this all day long, but the fact is, half of country voted for Trump, you say Hillary won the popular vote, but the truth is neither one of them got more than half the votes
Hillary won 48%, President Trump 47%

ok, I got it lol not only am I a clingy deplorable infidel, I weren't raised right neither lol

but I think you'd be singing a different tune if the situation were reversed
you don't like Trump, got it ... but that doesn't make our electoral college system wrong or discriminatory

If we were a democracy we wouldn't need the electoral college.
But, since we aren't a society of "Mob Rule", we need the EC to keep us from being a country ran by LA, SF, NYC and all the other highly populated liberal bastions.

Canada needs a similar system..the big cities are the ones that prime minister and in Ontario southern Ontario dictates our election outcomes
you definitely need the EC to avoid what we northern Ontarians deal with every election held except our own mayors
and mebers of parliment...we at least have a say in our little area
