For the last few months I have been getting quite short of breath at the slightest exertion. Went to see the Dr last week and he wanted me to come in yesterday for a blood test and ECG.

When the ECG was taken I was immediately referred to the duty Dr, who informed me that my heart rate was twice what it should be.

To cut a long story short, I spent 24 hours going through a barrage of tests and have been diagnosed with an aortal flutter; my heart is trying to beat at a stupidly fast rate but (fortunately) the fastest it will beat with this condition is around 150 bpm.

I am currently on 2 drugs to slow my pulse and warfarin to stop me getting clots.

Once my heart rate is stabilised I will be given a shock to get the heart beating as it should naturally - this could take up to 10 weeks or so.

I actually feel fine in myself, apart from the shortness of breath, and to tell the truth, although I know something must be done to correct this, I felt a right fraud in hospital - not feeling ill but having to be hooked up to all sorts of machines.

I'll keep you posted.

Wow I have to take Antiarrhythmic medications to slow mine down and have to keep nitro all around the house plus have a little bottle on my keychain too. So know what you mean Bamber.

Will keep you in my prayers also.

Listen to what the doc's say Bamber and finish all your meds even if you feel 100% better finish all meds and be careful with the warfarin, That causes you to bruise very easy and be careful with nicks and cuts now too.. Also I would ask the dr.to be checked for Hyperthyroidism which can be controlled with a synth, tab. I will say a prayer for you tonight and upon my morning rise.....

Prolly the excitement of seeing the Totnes gnomes that did it. I believe Tony Blair had the same thing with the electric shock thingy, don't know why, as looking at his wife would shock anyone. I've got a naked picture of Koni perhaps that would shock it back into rhythm? Anyway, good luck with it.

You're right LMP, I'm meeting lots of lovely young ladies. The trouble is they all stick needles in me; I feel like a Voodoo Doll.

Just got back from my latest trip to the horse piddle - this is costing me a fortune (£40 a day), as they recently stopped the local bus service between Totnes and the hospital, so I'm using taxis.

They've doubled my dose of rat poison (warfarin), and I'm being injected with another blood thinner daily too. Hopefully this will only take a week or so until the thinness of my blood is stabilised.
