The town down river from Totnes at the mouth of the River Dart is, unsurprisingly, called Dartmouth.

I haven't been to Dartmouth for years, even though I know a few people there, and didn't know about this cafe. The photo was taken by Jeff, an artist who visits this area regularly.

I thought it worth starting a thread on funny/punny/cringeworthy business names.

I remember when this shop in Torquay opened: it was the nearest chippy to where I lived at the time (1988).

Most of 'em make me wince or cringe, but there are a few original and clever ones out there.

Some 30 years ago, a couple of Brit friends of ours had their picture taken in front of a carpet store and sent it home. The place was called: "The House of Shag".

Even though they included the initials of the partners, this butcher shop in Bromsgrove was always known as bad ham and gristle.

When I lived there in the late '70s and early '80s there were four butchers shops with apt names. Only Partridges is left now.

When I was even younger, in the mid sixties, we lived in Buckinghamshire in the village of Aspley Guise. The next village was called Woburn Sands, where there was a poulterer's shop owned by a Mr Gander.
