The loco crew were enjoying the drive out of Melbourne on a nice hot day when confronted by a buckled rail. It was a rough ride for a few moments but the loco and train stayed on and the crew were as James Bond would say " shaken not stirred". The clip belongs to Driver Bernie Baker as denoted by the © watermark. There is no sound by request of the owner.

I missed this passing through Totnes on Saturday and Sunday: last time I looked they thought it wouldn't run due to a shortage of steam engines.

I had a little scout around this morning and found a new spot to film the railway from, a small area between the road and railway recently taken over by what I assume is a school gardening project. It makes for a very short clip, but a good head-on shot and a close pass.

Isn't that about drug addiction? Pah, want to try a REAL addiction, like tea from a thermos, fish paste sandwiches, anoraks, steam and coal.

Earlier in the month Tornado became the first steam engine to travel at over 100 mph in Britain since 1967.

Steam trains are currently restricted to 75 mph on the main line, but they are looking to raise that to 90 mph for certain engines as modern train times are a lot faster and this will reduce delays when steam excursions are running. For safety, the engine must have the ability to travel at 10% over the maximum, and the train operator got permission for the extra 1 mph to make it up to a nice round number.

A number of us steam enthusiasts have been wondering when 60163 Tornado would be leaving Cornwall, and I was happy to get a message today that she was due. I just had time to get to this spot, sheltered from the mist/drizzle blowing up the river. Lovely use of the chime whistle as she passes through Totnes station before coming into view, and appreciative applause from Totnes Riverside station behind me as Tornado flies past.
