This is a great thread. Too often, people wonder if recycling really does alleviate environmental damage. The pictures here not only show that things can be re-purposed, but they can be re-purposed creatively. It must have been deeply satisfying to see things anew, imagine new uses for objects that are designed for narrow purposes. It's like everyday engineering. Sociologists are also arguing that recycling, especially creative attempts and DIY projects, have the potential to give meaning and purpose to those who have no haven (religion, some large metaphysical idea of the world that can anchor them) in this postmodern world (Source: Sociology: The Essentials).
