When I was a little kid my grandparents had a Strayan friend called Hubbardy. He was from somewhere remote in the outback and had some odd Strine (that's the language he said he spoke) terms for things. He named my grandparents dog "Bouse" (rhymes with house), which was apparently a term from where he came for "excellent".

The Australian STRINE for House is Grouse ! Grouse means excellent.

Regional variation? Some of the regional slang here is VERY local; I know neighbouring towns in North Devon with different words for the same thing.

Ever since knowing what the word GROUSE means in your part of the world I’ve always wanted to go shooting grouse. I used to hunt quail.
