This morning was near 100% cloud cover by contrast. As I walked down towards the river this flower head really caught my attention. No idea what the plant is, but that is about as natural a floral crown as I have ever seen.
I stopped to drink in the scenery when I reached the river and this mother and her ducklings paddled past. Just after taking this shot a seal popped its nose above the surface for a couple of breaths, but not staying long enough for me to get a good shot.
There are several duck families along the river at the moment. This is currently one of the more successful mothers: when I noticed them swimming away from me towards Snipe Island there were six ducklings, then I spotted a seventh trailing well behind. I assume the tardy chick is also the one missing from the photo.
Twice before the crane was booked, but on the day the wind was too high to use it so it was cancelled. Crane rental is a very efficient business and they are out most days, so it's a case of getting the next available date.
Sometimes I see something which I know should make a good photo but I just can't seem to get it right. This is the fifth attempt at a picture of this particular hawthorn and I'm still not entirely happy with it, but it's the best so far. The problem is, I don't know exactly what's wrong, it just doesn't feel quite right.
