Just last week, we learned about Bernie's passing. I last heard from him around Christmas and the last time we actually talked was last June. He lived where I was born. He was an Engineer.

Bernie was a special man. He was a steady character, kind and funny. A good curler, a great musician, a wonderful father and husband, a trusted friend and a sharp mind.

He was part of our curling team. We were so happy when he and his wife Lynne (gone too, many years ago) came to visit Calgary. We showed them everything we could think of. They were in awe of our city.

I knew Bernie wasn't well the last time I talked to him, but he never let on that it was so serious. Rest in Peace, dear friend. Gone but never forgotten.

The passing of friends always pulls us up short. You have my sympathy.
