They can be larger or smaller but these examples are roughly
8-12 inches, 20-30 cm, on the longest side. What are they?

I changed my mind, I saw these on tv, it was a documentary on the harvest in Ticino in spring 1957(yes, I am that old).
They are spaghetti winders. They are used to stop the spaghetti touching the ground when it falls from the bushes.

T.P. dispensers for bathrooms.
I call them Bog roll holders.... I have never had one as i always use a newspaper to wipe with.

Are they anything to do with fishing? The Bansbapoi club went fishing but i never saw any of these so it`s just a wild guess.
