I think one reason I still have so much rock and roll going through my blood is that I grew up with the lead singer of Anthrax, Joey Belladonna. (Joe Bellardini, before he changed it.) He lived right around the corner, and there was a house that everyone hung out at, and partied at. He was in a couple of high school garage bands, and I remember going to this big frat house by the lake that they practiced at. The memories are quite *foggy* though.....hahaha.....wonder why??? haha...cool... yeah, for me, I think it was probably partially due to what my parents had playing in the house at the time...Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Journey, Bruce Springsteen, Genesis...as well as some country stuff like Emmy Lou Harris, New Grass Revival, Fred Eaglesmith, Leo Kottke...and even some classical stuff....Bach and the like...and every Christmas, dad would always put on Bach's Brandenburg Concertos...haha...but then for the years we had Christmas dinner at my Mom's parents' house, Grandma would make me sit through "Little Drummer Boy" (because I played drums)....every f**king time...hahaha oh well, plus, she would have on Nana Mouskouri, and other weird stuff...though, I remember she also had some old-school Dolly Parton...back when she was actually country, and quite young...I remember hearing the song, "Jolene" quite a bit over there...good song...haha..even if it is country... ![]() I also credit one of my friends...well, actually, his older sister...for getting me into some other stuff....like Devo, and The Knack...she had a boyfriend who played bass in a rock band, so she was into a lot of the less mainstream music...which kinda became more mainstream later on...like Devo, and The Knack. haha I think that was the first record (like, vinyl) I ever bought was The Knack...with My Sharona, and Good Girls Don't, etc...and I think the first tape I ever bought was Def Lepard...the one with Photograph, Rock Of Ages, etc. I don't remember the first cd I ever bought...

lol...
I love how when you hear an older song or band it brings you back to when you first heard it, or where you were at the time they were popular. "The Knack"....lol ...brings me back to summer vacations spent on the Jersey shore.... There's an updated version of "Jolene" by another artist; I'll have to see if I can find it, it's pretty good. I'm not fond of very much country music, but there is some that I really like,...some of Toby's that I love... I absolutely love Big and Rich, any men that can harmonize like that steal my heart...lol |
