I believe the right hand doorway is recycled from the 16th century Alms Houses which were demolished twice, both times to make way for new roads. The first demolition was careful enough to allow most of the material to be used to rebuild a short distance away but the second demolition was permanent.
When I got up around 5:15 it was still dark, but I could see it was a clear morning. By the time I set out for a walk not only had cloud rolled in but the air quality had deteriorated quite markedly. It was still nice to get out for an hour and check out how things looked from Sharpham Drive to the south of Totnes.
